Yeah I did. Draw length is set to my specs. The draw weight feels good too. Anything else I should fine tune? I've shot one arrow out of this particular bow, so I'm not really sure if the sight pins are accurate or not. Thanks for the feedback!

Just found this thread a few weeks back. Looks like a good group in here.
    :hattip:
September is almost here, I was fortunate enough to draw both deer and elk tag. Now I just have to fill them.... I've only been in archery the last 6 years. Did good first year . And that was it, lol.
Wishing you all the best of luck out there.

It really is a labor of love becoming one with your bow. I've tried to explain this to cross bow people, but they just can't relate!

    I'm looking forward to it!

Good luck to you too! I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot more action than I will in the public lands of California.

When you sight in your bow remember to chase your arrow, if you shoot left more your sight left, I dunno if you know that or not but oh well.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying anything bad about crossbows. I've hunted with both. There's just something very primal about shooting stick-n-string. It's That feeling you get when releasing that 29" missle out of your bow that I just didn't get with a crossbow. I completely build set up and tune my own bows. I probably shoot no less than 700 to 800 times in the process of turning and building a bow. But with thecrossbow, that connection just wasn't there for me.

60lbs is plenty to kill...I shot an elk with my bow and its only 60lb. Placement is the key.

If you are experiencing string slap on your wrist your draw length is too long. Your wrist should be straight when you are at full draw. Also dont have a death grip on the bow it will mess up your accuracy.

What kind of release do you have?
Make sure your fletchings are aligned so they dont hit your string or the arrow rest

The string slapped me on my forearm which I think was the result of me having my arm completely straight (or so I was told). I just bought some fixed broadheads for the upcoming deer season and will be practicing like crazy to improve my accuracy. Montec G5 carbon steel. Any experience with these?

I've got a trigger release at home, but I don't know the brand.

The guy I bought it off included 9 arrows, but I have no idea if they are any good or not. I figure I'll improve my accuracy first, equipment second.

I'm sure your arrows are fine but I'll tell you this, arrow stiffness matters, depending on your draw length and weight your arrows might be too stiff or not stiff enough. This might effect your groupings and how good of a tune you can get on your bow. My draw lengths 28.5 and weight is 70, I shoot 330's, but it kinda just depends on what you are.

I have actually tried them, and I found them to be a pain in the ass to keep sharp and balanced I would much more suggest G5 strikers with the replaceable razors. I have now used them for 4 or 5 years now. Their flight characteristics were excellent , IMO

Ramcats are great too. Really, most broadheads will do the trick, all about shot placement.

When I was getting started, these two books probably wer'e the best help I had ever found to learn the art of building, tuning and shooting bows. I highly suggest them. image.jpg

The spline on my arrows is 330 too.

Thank you very much for the recommendation. I'm going to order these ASAP. I don't come from a hunting family, so I'm having to learn through tons of internet research and helpful people like yourselves.

Like I stated earlier, in the process of setting up my bows, I shoot no less then 700to 800 times. This does two things, obviously I shoot that much to set the blowup but the second and more important thing is it builds muscle memory. That way, when you're in the hunt and have buck fever and it's cold and lots of clothes on, your muscle memory gets you through that. I train and teach shooting in the same exact manner .
