Hey guys I know exactly what Tacoma config I want and want to obviously get the best possible deal but have never bought a brand new truck before and need some opinions on how to best proceed.

I feel $500 over invoice plus TTTL is a fair price (maybe not?) but I am also looking at the 2017 Tacoma so unsure if dealers will take that offer seriously if I ask to order one.

I live in Nashville and the dealership I have spoke with around here said $500 off MSRP is what they would do. I quickly declined and said I would look elsewhere.

I'm thinking of emailing a shit ton of internet sales managers within a 200 mile radius and letting them know the exact config of the 2017 I want and saying $500 over invoice or better is what I am looking for.

Is this a good approach in your opinion? Or would it be a waste of time given the 2017's are just coming out?

    Thanks! Matt

Try www.cars.com It's early in the game but their selection will get better.

It shows what dealers have in stock now.

try it. it may actually work and you can't get thrown out of a virtual dealer anyway.

Worst they can do is say no. It's not a ridiculous lowball offer.

I was just unsure if it would be a ridiculous low ball offer since i am talking the 2017 model. I feel confident asking that for 2016 at this point in time but was unsure on the 2017. Thanks

Also don't get discouraged....They'll want you to come in and drive one....They don't understand you might live hundreds of miles away and only want a quote...

Most typically won't really want to deal that way (internet sales) but you'll find a few that will so invest time with them to let them know if you are serious....

I don't think that it's unreasonable even for the 2017 model. There's not really any 'major' changes, and its newness is kind of wearing off. I've seen quite a few people get 500 over invoice. Besides you're paying 500 over invoice on the new 2017 invoice price that increased 3-4% over the 2016 invoice price. Like I said the worst they can do is say no. I wouldn't feel like your low balling them. It's just the price you want to pay. Yeah it's a good price, but still fair for both parties..

Email them from a throwaway account. I did the same thing when i was shopping for my 2016, those that didn't want to negotiate on price kept spamming me with emails on their "sales events" and offering me 2nd gen tacomas.

when it comes down to it, don't let them low ball you on trade...or if they do, keep your original vehicle and sell it elsewhere... I only got $500 for my trade b/c it was salvage even though I was promised $1500 (the guy who promised just happened to not be there when my truck came in). I should have just kept it, but at the time, I didn't feel like dealing with the hastle, and really wanted the truck.....but really, I could have easily gotten $2000 for my car even with the salvage title.

This is actually something that concerns me with buying from a dealer that is a 200 or so mile drive from Nashville. Once I get there I am at their mercy on the trade in. I cant drive two trucks home so i would have to get the wife to go with me in case the trade didnt work out. I have a Ford Ranger that is in very good condition and i wont let them screw me on the trade since i can sell it myself . It would piss me off though if i drove all the way there for them to dick me around on it.

I bought my 2016 Tacoma from Uebelhor Toyota in Jasper, IN if you don't mind a bit of a drive. I drove a 10 hour round trip from Chicago to get my truck there. Ron Gooding is the internet sales manager I dealt with and he gave me the truck at dealer invoice plus tax out the door. He said he would give anyone from the Tacoma World the same deal as well if you mention the website. Get in touch Ron I'm sure he will give you a good deal and was great to work with.

I also traded and drove my 2008 Tacoma there, traded it in and drove the new truck home. Gave me a fair deal on the trade that we negotiated before I even drove down. They honored the deal, no problems. Had to send them some pics beforehand of my old truck before we finalized the deal.

Atlanta has some good Toyo dealerships another member here recommended a guy down there but its about 4 hour drive. And EVERY time I go to Atlanta regardless of time of day it takes an hour or better just to get through downtown. My gut tells me it would be a stressful experience ha

Was the trade in price they said they would give the same price when you got there or did they try and haggle it down?
