Hey guys, I'm new to wiring and working with lights. But I just got a set of Pods and a wiring switch / harness. Ive read the tutorial for wiring aftermarket lights, but I decided to just purchase a complete harness instead. So I want to make sure I am doing everything right before I plug her into my truck.
The harness I got has the terminals that hook onto the battery, both + and -. Those run to the relay. There are no wires for me to ground... Is that right? Is the ground built into the relay?

The relay then runs to the switch, and the lights. The manual is self explanatory on connecting the wires to the switch. All the wires are on the switch, there is nothing for me to run a ground. Is the ground built into the switch?

Then the relay runs to the lights. There is one red and one black wire. I have 2 pods. Do i just connect the 2 red wires, then connect into the red wire from the relay, and same thing with the black? I will try and get some pictures posted up for explanation of my questions. Thanks for any help that can be given to a noob.

So these simply attach to the battery terminals. And there's no ground?

This is the switch... Again, is there a built in ground? Because that is exactly how the directions say to connect it all.

Sorry for the lack of knowledge. I just want to make sure it's all good so I don't burn my truck to the ground.

So I got everything plugged up... But the blue light stays on behind the switch. I'm connected to the terminals on my battery. With a relay. Should the light be off when the car is off?

I've got a similar harness/switch. The light will NOT turn off when the car is off because it's pulling power straight from the battery. You'd have to wire up to a fuse if you want it to turn off when the car goes off. There's a thread or 2 that has the information for how to do it.

Did you wire it to a fuse or did you just keep it on the battery? I don't mind if, as long as there's no risk to my battery being killed or excessively drained.

Almost looks like the little red jumper on the switch is pulling power for the switch LED to run on the main harness power. I could be totally wrong. The harnesses I buy don't look this j-rigged.

If you want to test it just pop the switch out and remove one of the jumper leads, if it is indeed power for the LED, just either tie it into the dash lights or run it off an Add-a-circuit to the interior fuse box.

I've got 2 different sets of lights hooked up directly to my battery. One has been in for 3 weeks, one for a week. I haven't had any battery problems. It should being pulling such a minimal amount of power it doesn't matter. With that said however, I'm going to be making a fuse box wire set up. I'll try and find you the thread with the info

    Edit: here's the thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/wiring-an-aux-fuse-block-relays-and-switches-in-a-2016.401253/

That short wire on the back of the switch is connected to the hot wire coming to the switch. That short wire is connected to the illumination for the switch. It should be hooked to a wire under the dash that goes to one of the lights on the dash. Then it will go off with the truck and dim with the other lights. Here's a drawing I did for someone a while back showing the wiring on one of those switches.

If you don't have a fuse box for accessories under the hood then change the wires from the fuse box to the battery.

I agree with above. If you do an add a fuse tie onto your taillight circuit as it is powers your dash lights as well. If you want to verify just pull that fuse and verify your dash lights are out.

I agree. Grab an Add a fuse.
I got one in headlight slot and one in radio. Both turn right off once key is off.
Headlight one can be used without key once you turn on parking lights

So what they're saying is unplug this one, and the light will turn off. If you want the light to turn on with your dash lights, use an add a circuit and tap into the TAIL fuse under the dash.

Yeah, I'm all about simple. I'm sure you know all about Barney style being in the Marines and dealing with junior personnel!

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier. Yea what you need to do to make the accessory (led bar, pods, etc) turn off when the truck is off is have the relay trigger wire (coil side) of the get power from a keyed ign power source. The relay (Acc side) needs to have power from the battery.

I hate those pre-made harnesses because they don't allow you to do that without modifying them.

It's all good. I think I'm going to leave what I got for now. I'll change it down the line when I get another bar. And the next light I'll piece the harness together myself. Do you think it's fine for now being connected to the battery? What sort of issues could come about if I keep it how it is for a little while?

If you leave it the way it is and only change what I mentioned, you will be able to turn the pods on and off whenever, but the little led on the switch will only come on when your parking/headlights are on.

Not sure if your goal was to have your lighta turn off with the truck even with the switch on.
