I know that the normal pumpkin with an LSD will not fit into an e-locker diff but I want to see if anyone knows what mods can be done to make it work?
From pictures it looks like if i knock out/ remove 2 studs I should be able to bolt that sucker in there. Can anyone confirm?

i dont think its that simple...or even possible for the matter

honestly i would just throw an arb or detroit locker into the 8.4 diff and call it a day.

lets ask someone with some knowledge @MonkeyProof

Swap axles. They're both 8" diffs. Toyota just calls the non e locker diff an 8.4 because it's stronger. The e locker doesn't allow for the stronger supports of the "8.4". There's no way to do what you want to accomplish with an e locker diff.

I specifically want an lsd and not a locker. By suports do you mean studs for the 3rd member?

Yes an axel swap is on the table but not preferred.

I forget the exact details, but the internal parts supporting the gears are stronger in the "8.4". The e locker housing doesn't leave enough room for the extra strength.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
This can be done and their is a thread on here showing a couple small notching cuts in the upper portion of the opening to allow for it. However, I think the guy that did it had a lot of time on his hands and it didn't really turn out to be worth it in the end. There are enough non-Elocker housings in junkyards to just swap out instead. I will look for the thread and post it up if I can find it again. I came across all of this when I was trying to research the difference in the inappropriately titled 8.4/8.25 vs 8" third members. As previously stated, they are both 8", but the non-Elocker is a bit beefier.

The last I will say is that the current TRD OR models won't have the Auto LSD feature even with a current model third member axle and housing. The Auto LSD is an electronic LSD controlled at the brake pad and not a mechanical version inside the pumpkin with clutches. If you swap axles with a current model and don't install a lunchbox or some other LSD then bone stock will only provide for an open differential without the electronic control module. Toyota stopped building mechanical LSDs OEM in 2009, I believe. These are hard to come by, but aftermarket is easier and probably better quality at this point with technology.

I personally prefer LSD rear and locker front. When i crawl it pulls me over and when i am on the street i have all around traction. It also is cost effective to buying another locker. The OP, of course has a stock locker and I have no experience of any electric actuator failure or additional maintenance.
