    Yota nation,

My '04 Tacoma has been humming/buzzing when the key in the ignition is turned to on. I have waited for a bit to see if it would subside, but no luck. I know that some engines do this to prepare for the ignition, but the buzzing doesn't stop even when the engine is running.

Just wondering if you have any ideas about what it could be?

    Thanks,

    YotaOregon33

Sounds like feedback from a bad ground to me. Not sure if there are typical spots in a Tacoma to check, but might want to check the ground to the stereo. Is your stereo aftermarket?

Also, do you hear the buzzing in the speakers?

Should be easy to figure out what is actually buzzing. Pop the hood and figure it out.

I think by "some engines do this" he means the humming that is associated with a fuel pump

Now that I think about it, could be buzzing under the hood from a relay under the hood, like someone mentioned above also.

Its the stock stereo. The humming sound continues even with the radio off.

My use of the word buzzing wasn't the best description. Its more of a humming sound than anything. I went out on my lunch and I didn't hear the sound. I just bought this Tacoma so I could just be paranoid, but I wasn't able to find any information about what I am hearing. It very well could be the fuel pump, but I haven't heard one go on that long.

Unlike most EFI trucks, our Tacoma fuel pumps (inside the fuel tank) DO NOT fire up with the key in the IGN position. They fire up as soon as the motor starts to rotate (ie - by the starter). At least this is how my '99 3RZ works.

my truck if I listen very closely under the hood there is a "bzzz" every 3 seconds or so very faint. it comes from around the drivers side front fuse box. I have kind of located it to the box next to the fuse box but everything on the truck works fine and it never dies so I just ignore it. I honestly forget its there most of the time

It's from the evap system. My dad's 96 does the same thing. My 99 has an additonal part on the evap system that keeps it quiet.

Yea it has been running fine, and like I said, I could just be paranoid because I just bought the Tacoma. It usually makes the sound in the morning before the first time firing it up. It has been starting up fine, and driving well though, so I guess if its not broke, I wont go try and fix it if its not a big problem. I hope to the good lord above that its not those damn hornets haha! ;)

And this. My friends 97 does it constantly, comes fringe evaporate system right by the master cylinder, pretty annoying.

Not much yet, but do have Flowmaster exhaust, with Rockford Fosgate P600.1Bd 600 RMS Mono amp for my 12" P3 with custom box and a Punch P400-4 Four Channel amp for my mids and highs running 100 watts per channel and have two speakers on each channel, not to mention 6 more hooked to the 4 channels from the headunit as well....Hopefully soon will be a body lift with new tires, and eventually the actual suspension...
Where is the stereo grounded to? I have 3 amps, about to be 4, in my 07, and I never had any buzzing until I installed the 3rd amp...Now, it's horrible. I just switched RCA's and it helped, but now it's back...I checked the ground points where my amps are, and they are fine, 0 ohms. And I just did the big 3 upgrade with 0/1 gauge Rockford Fosgate wire from the Alt pos and neg to the battery, from the engine block to the battery ground, and from the battery to the chasis (did I forget any there? Do I need one from the alt to the chasis as well or is it fine just to the batt?) Everything else seems fine....I have been having a "pop" every time my engine turns on in one speaker in my drivers' door, and I took of my panel and realized two of the speakers had wires that were frayed and grounding against the chasis. I'm guessing that might be what was causing everything. Now my Bass Amp doesn't work, I hope I didn't fry it. Even tho those speakers weren't directly connected, it was connected to the Pass Thru using the RCA's since the other two amps took up all the RCA jacks on the stereo....So, anyway, back to the question...I just want to check the ground on the stereo, so does anyone know where it's grounded to so I can check the wire and the resistance?

This little addition stopped the bzzz on mine. I had to take it off a newer model and add it to my 96.
