Agree completely! That's a basis of my posts, the noise is unacceptable and I'm trying to minimize it.

Mine was measured by Toyota and they put it was 89db average noise. ON my service ticket.
    THANK YOU!

90db is lawn mover so they screwed up so I hired a lawyer and he said measure it again elsewhere. The sound shop got 89ave too but reveled the 109.9 peaks when semi's passed by. Making my iphone 110 peaks accurate. Waiting on Toyota for a response to the charges. I bought a new GMC (dead quiet) and the Taco sits till Toyota picks it up. Too loud in side to drive without ear plugs.

89 db inside the cab is pretty bloody loud for a 17 pickup, yikes. Mines noisy, I've never measured it, but I doubt it's that loud.

The dealer put plugs in the frame holes. No more noise. They said there was a service notice on this issue. I believe it was 4 Holes in the frame causing the noise. This was fixed almost a year ago. Bo nouse since.

There are two rubber plugs on each side. I think lower control arms. Im no mechanic, but i crawled under and thats the only plugs i saw. Strange that it would cause such a noise. Guess air swirling through. Hope that helps.

Thx man. Big help. I had already done that mod myself based on info from this forum re a Toyota TSB. Glad this helped your noise issues. Cheers

There's a TSB for hollowing noise in front that usually starts approximately 40 mph. Both lower control arms have holes that require plugs. Also, a friend had his 2016 Tacoma to the dealer and they replaced the front cab insulators bushings that secure the cab to chassis to stop chatter coming from front.

Hi, Just starting to sound proof mine, what did you ever do with the vents, I know your not suppose to block them all the way. Did you put anything in front of them like a foam pad to block the noise? Did you leave the tape on them ? Just wondering what I should do with mine. I was thinking of putting something on the Toyota sheet that hangs in front of them. Let me know. Thanks Robert

    Fresh gas.
My cab is noisy and it is from those vents.
If you drive at highway speed and turn the recirculate on and off, you'll be able to tell the difference.
It isn't un-driveable how it is, but it's still there and i've keyed into that frequency - so it's what I hear often.

Not sure what i'm gonna do yet, but it's gonna involve something like pink insulation (porous material) stuffed partway into the vents, or taped up with some small holes punched in the tape.

Compared to other trucks on the market, Tacoma has very loud road noise, kind of a joke how bad it is.

2018 Access Cab: swapping out my rear seats with another TW member. I'm going to copy what Over 60 did, but I'm going to use Boom Mat Spray. I'm also going to cut some foam filter media and stick it in the vent holes. I'll include pictures

Here’s what I did on mine. Helped reduce road noise.

I came from a Wrangler so I thought the Taco was very quiet comparatively, but I thought it could be better so I put sound deadening everywhere I could in the cab which meant taking the entire interior out including the headliner. Now it's as quiet as my GF's GX460, and the stock (JBL) sound system sounds better too.

It was a huge PITA, and I would probably pay someone if I were going to do it again, but now that it's over it's totally worth it.

Looks like a hell of a complete job. Nicely done. What materials did you use?
    Thanks,

Thanks! This is the sound deadening material I used on the back wall. The foam is just some leftover from a Pelican case.
