does your truck like to rest at 1000rpm once u get up the your driving speed? i was hoping that this new transmission tsb was gonna help out with the gearing and responsiveness. but i hear mixed things.... i have not had my fluid checked yet or the tsb yet .... i feel like my truck drives good till it gets to the speed limit/driving speed, then u let off the gas a little bit or completly ,... then the fun stops real quik .... it up shifts like to 6th gear and drives at 1k rpm. so then if I then need a little power i push the gas a bit..... in 5th or 6th gear theres basicaly no response unless u push it harder so it will downshifts.,... then gets going,,, .. but then.... as soon as u let off the gas a little again ...... back to 1k rpm .... driving a 36k truck dogging it at 1000rpm sucks! i wouldnt even mind 1200-1300 rpm resting rpm when im cruising on some flats ....but 1000 is not enough. def not while in 5th or 6th gear. my truck will accually upshift when at 1300rpm to go into 1k mode. is this normal ??? for the 2016 or just mine? thanks

Do you want fuel economy or your engine wound out? If you just want RPM, bump the shifter over to s2 or s3

Yep, thats what it does. I find it amazing that it doesn't lug. Exercise your foot and push harder if you want to go faster.

i just wanna drive normal in D.. i would give a couple mpg to have it not dog at 1k rpm 80% of the time. if i drive in ECT it revs too high IMO in 1st and second to feel good. but when i do use ECT hardely any loss in MPG too. i use s-4 and s-5 alot its a little better then d but a pain in the ass that gear limiter

All automatic transmissions are always in the wrong gear now a days.

And its quite counterintuitive in regards to fuel mileage

agreed. im not getting good mpgs from this 1k rpm mode. not even really any differnace if i hit the ect button and it revs from 2-3k before upshift.. i think it takes energy to be always changing the gears. also when its driving at 1k rpm in 6th gear going 33mph and im trying to give it gas it aint doing nothing till i push it hard enough to downshift one or even two gears just to jump instantly up again. how can all that work be good for mpg's?

Wow, so at 55MPH the motor is only turning 1,000RPM? Perhaps I am wrong but that does not really pass the sniff test. Have you changed the tire size or the gearing? Or at what speed are you going in 6th gear that you are turning 1,000RPM? You said speed limit so I likely made an incorrect assumption that speed limit you are referencing is 55MPH. If you are putting around at 30-40MPH then it makes more sense. Our company vehicle act the same way at low speed it drops into 6th (or whatever high gear is in the crappy trans) and you really have to stomp on it to get it to react. In traffic I force it into a lower gear so it will keep up. I always thought that this was just a product of 4 and 6 cylinder engines with 6 and 7 speed slushboxes. I find modern autos searching for gears quite a lot and shifting more erratically than my old '93 K3500 but then again it gets 10-11mpg so there are trades offs for everything.

Mine hasn't held 1k RPM since the TSB transmission shifting update. Highway/Interstate the lowest RPMs I've seen are about 1900.

it drives the worst when your driving long flats around 30-40-45mph its better once you get up to 55-60mph and higher

Should have gotten a truck with a third pedal then. All modern automatic trans are going to act like this.

Check the tsb in the stickies. If your vin is posted it will help tremendously. I had several issues with shift points, reverse to drive lag, and cruise control, since the update I have noticed a much smoother refined tranny and engine. I am not sure how someone drove theses trucks and said, "good enough, send em out."

I also have noticed more low down power. Scratched the tires the other day on accident, no way that wold have happened before.
I have not felt the lack of power you talk about anymore. It is there when you need it.

An engine that's turning faster is going to use more fuel than an engine that's just above idle, if the truck's moving at the same speed. Modern automatics are tuned to be as efficient as possible, so they're always going to jump to the highest possible gear for a given speed if the throttle position isn't indicating that the driver is asking for more power. Not sure what you're complaining about; what you're expecting from your automatic is the equivalent of running a 5 speed manual transmission in 4th at 55 rather than in 5th, just because 4th gives you more power when you push on the gas.

The lower the rpm the better. The TSB does not affect this behavior. FWIW, 40mph is about 1k rpm.

The only reason the taco auto trans 5spd gets better mileage than the manual 6spd

Is because of the gearing. The 5th gear on the auto keeps much lower freeway rpms than the 6th gear on the manual.

I think Toyota did this for a reason
