Hey guys....I noticed when building my TRD Sport when I add in the options I want (prem & Tech no JBL, tonneau, mudguards, tow package, pred steps, ex tip) that the price difference between that and the Limited w/exact same accessories is only a price difference of $1,730.

The thing is I have to have leather and either was going to go with Clazzios or see what the dealer would charge for an aftermarket install. The Clazzios are about $450 and the dealer install aftermarket leather I would est around 1k-1.5k.

This gets the difference between the two trucks at $1,200 with the Clazzios or basically even with dealer installed leather.

Obviously with the Limited you get more bells and whistles 18 inch wheels , auto dimming rearview and the JBL system (which I listened to at a dealership and didn't think it was that great compared to aftermarket systems I have installed in previous vehicles.)

With the price difference being so close between the two with adding either Clazzios or dealer installed leather does it make more sense to go with the Limited? Am I missing anything that the TRD Sport offers (beyond hood skewp and shocks) that would justify the cost being so close to the Limited?

    Thanks!

What do you like about the sport? the absolute only difference the leather, the JBL, the Hitachi Sport shocks (vs Hitachi normal shocks), and hood scoop, and the homelink mirror.....how did you listen to the radio? did you plug in an ipod/phone and try to tune the system, or did you just put on the radio and crank it up? of course aftermarket will be better when you spend the money, but you won't get a better system for only $700. i think the JBL sounds absolutely fantastic for what it is (stock). If you want to upgrade the stereo, you might as well get the Sport, if you don't want to have someone (or you) tearing up parts of your truck to run a stereo system then get the limited.

Yeah you may be right about HOW I listened to the JBL. It was just on the HD radio channel. I tried to tweak it with the EQ and cranked it up and it sounded muddy. I asked the sales guy with me if this was the best it would sound and he literally had no idea with the truck. He even said he thought I knew more on the Tacoma than he did. He was very new. I should have plugged up my phone and played something off Itunes but at that moment it was my first test drive on the Tacoma and I was more focused on the test drive etc.

I know that an aftermarket set up is not possible at $700. I generally have spent around 1.5k to 2k for an aftermarket set up.

I may need to go back and actually plug up my phone into the JBL since I prob didnt give it a fair shot.

I figured factory leather would be better but I read the entire Clazzio thread and most if not all RAVE about them and the pics they posted look just like factory installed leather IMO. Never seen them in person though but would have to agree the factory would be better.

This is the set up I like:

    Bal:0
    fade: R2
    Treble: +2/3
    Mid: +1/2
    Bass: +0/1/2
    vol: ~30-35, not over 40

I mostly listen to rock (eagles, ACDC, Breaking Benjamin, 90s, etc.), some hip hop, some pop, some country, and yes even techno...that set up sounds pretty good for these types of music..pick a song that has good highs and lows:

    couple of suggestions:
numb vs encore (jayz & linkin park)
    one headlight (wallflowers)
    centuries (fallout boy)
It's a long way to the top if you want to rock n roll (ac/dc)

Different tail lights in the limited too! Wish they were all red instead of clear.

Toyota is very smart with the options/packages pricing since the two things I absolutely want leather and sunroof are only available together in the Limited package. Man this would be so much easier if they just gave the add sunroof and leather option on the TRD Sport.

The f'd up thing about it too is I actually LIKE the hood scoop making the decision even more difficult. I know the hood scoop is non functional and i generally dont go for things like that but man it makes the truck look tougher IMO.

    Damn you Toyota! ha

LMAO.... You can get everything but leather on the Sport. Maybe get the fully loaded Sport and dealership to do aftermarket leather. I do not care for the factory brown leather.

Does anyone think the packages will change for the 2017? Do you think Toyota will give more flexible options on the build compared to the 2016 build choices? Or does it generally stay the same year after year?

Isn't the sunroof an option on the TRD Sport? Before I got my '12 Pre, I built several TRD Sports online and every time the sunroof was an option (on the DC). In my mind the sport shocks and the color keyed EVERYTHING trumps the Limited with all its disgusting chrome. Even if the trucks drive similarly, the Sport looks more aggressive and slick. The versions I always built were 41k MSRP which isn't too far off of the Limited, but didn't come with all the chrome.

I'm surprised Toyota doesn't offer different leather color choices for the Limited. If the Tacoma is Toyotas bread and butter you would think they would give some more flexibility with the options.

Yea, not a fan of the chrome side mirrors. What made my decision was the sport with the color matched "everything"!

Yeah the sunroof is an option with the Sport but leather is not hence the dilemma when you add the cost of the leather aftermarket you get so close to the Limited price. I agree with you though the Sport does look more aggressive which I like. All the Mods I would do to the truck would be in that vein.

I don't mind the chrome but I think the color keyed looks more modern.

Actually if it were possible, i'd trade the hood scoop for the leather. Hood scoop would be great if one of two things were true: it were functional and/or i was still in my 20s.

I drove a Mazda with leather for nearly 9 years. While I do not miss the leather in extreme heat or extreme cold, I miss it when I get into my car all sweaty. Those cloth seats soak up the sweat. Gross.

I wonder how long it will take Toyota to get the build portion of the 2017 up on their site?
Ha. But if you take away the hood scoop there is no difference in the looks between the Sport & Limited? I think the hood scoop is where the aggressive look is coming from. Unless Im missing something else.
