Secured the spare a bit better. We'll see if the bed rail holds or if it will just rip out.

Ideally the best solution would be to weld the nut in the back.

You still have the main strap over top the tire? Can't tell from the pic

Yup, main strap is still there and the primary means of holding it down. Bolt is to keep it from moving side to side like we discussed a while back.

Yeah the strap setup couldn't hold its own with 32" in there at Rausch so holding down a 35 would last like getting to the trail head :p

Welp went wheeling, got a little overzealous and broke my shit. My spider gears couldn't handle my heavy foot and 35's.

The good thing about it was I learned and did a couple things I have never done before this weekend. For one thing I learned how to change a CV axle. The other thing was I learned how to get the fuck home with a broken front diff. I just wish that I didn't need to learn these lessons in a torrential downpour.

And for future reference for anyone with Electric ADD, here is how you can get home too when you do this. If you cut your driver side CV axle right by the cage on the outer side, you can use that to keep the wheel bearings/hub assembly together while no longer making your gears spin in your front diff. After I did this my front drive shaft no longer spins, and since the add tube is on the passenger side I could keep that side in. I didn't have red loctite on me so I had to go back the next day and loctite my LBJ bolts and marked them as well.

Big thanks to @ToyRyd04 for not letting me go home before I did this because he told me I could have my front diff and front wheels lock up on me on my 2 hour drive home.

Anywho, here's some pics of the ordeal:

I made a 2wd kit like that after i broke the inner splined section of the CV in MO a few years ago. I would toss a cotter pin on that axle stub shaft shaft if you haven't already, the bearing coming apart will bring the suck.

Oh it's got both the cotter pin and the little cotter pin shield thingy too. I actually took it all back apart because I wanted to make sure that nut was torqued to spec and to replace the cotter pin that I re-used with a brand new one. Def gonna be saving this 2wd kit for any potential future need.

Thanks homie! Yeah I have a running list of shit that is falling apart and needs to be fixed in the next couple months. Looking at cars for the wife this weekend so I can then DD her Altima for a bit to get my funds back up. So far the list is:

    New PS Pump
    New Rack
    New OTRE's
    Regear and Arb Front
Rear axle seals and Bearing on Passenger rear

The last one is getting tackled this weekend. Got a machine shop lined up that can pull/press the bearings for me. The goal is to get all this shit fixed by Moab next year.

I WISH i could commit to Moab.
    But a man can dream.

Let me know when you guys plan another wrench day. I'd love to be the permanent flash light holder.

I do. I ordered the ultimate wheel bearing/seal kit from low range so it's got the tone ring and all.

Will do man. I'm sure I'll host a mod day when it's time to get my diff's in.

Just checking ;), funny Lowrange only had 1 kit at the time (with no end in sight for the other) and I ended up canceling the order and having to manually search and order the correct parts.

You will need this to give to the shop.

Yeah I was going to tell them when I dropped it off that the last collar/tone ring needs to be at the length it was previously since it rides on the inner seal. This is good too so that they have the numbers to also confirm it. Did you end up making your own tool?
