Because that's what some people are willing to pay instead of saying stick it and the vehicles stay on the lot.

I'm not going to tell people what to do with their money, but in my opinion $45K USD way too much pay for a midsized truck with these options when you can get a Tundra TRD Pro for a similar cost.

Look up under the skirt of your pro and check the rear differential to confirm size. =)

That's why I told myself if I couldn't get a TRD OR for 35k or less I would just get a full-size. I drive a 1 ton dually everyday, and it gets old.

So roughly how much will that end up being OTD? Just curious

    meh.

$45k is a drop in the bucket considering you get back $35k of that after 4 years driving.

total cost of ownership is what matters; not msrp.

the TRD Pro should be $55k with a super charger and all options included along with an alaskan excursion event sponsored by Monster.

    None yet.
Thanks for the welcomes and comments.

As for the options - Yes, I know I'm getting screwed. They know they'll sell the truck so they outfit it with options that have absurd profit margins.

I agree with the comment "How can they make you buy Toyocare" and was asking myself the same question. This really ticked me off more than anything. Someone answered, and maybe it's a SE thing, but it is BS. As near as I can tell, it basically amounts to 2 free oil changes and tire rotations. There is some other stuff like roadside assistance, etc. But the price is just insane. They would not take it off. I could have said "I'm walking" but I doubt they would care because they'd sell it quickly.

Someone asked about OTD. Tough to answer because I did negotiate a fair trade in for my Ford, so I got a tax credit. I'm around 42k OTD with the equity I had in my Ford. Had it not been for my trade then it would be 7% above price in OP. They did bump my trade-in up another $1000 to offset my displeasure with the issues involving options and Toyocare.

All I can say is this the perfect truck for me and I paid up for it, even if I do require some Preparation H. My place out west is on a mountain and has narrow roads leading to my driveway. During last winter's visit we got 6 FEET of snow in a week. I maintain the roads out to the main road with a Honda ATV w/ snowplow, and I am anticipating that my new TRD will work well for my intended use on the rough roads. I'll probably get better winter tires and use the stock tires only during the non-winter months. Very common out west.

Thanks for posting all your details, that should help a lot of people looking.

$46k though for a Tacoma, yowza. Not anything against you OP, I'm sure everyone will be paying top dollar for a Pro. After being in my 2016 for 5 months, it's a good truck, not perfect, but good. I do feel the Tacoma is pretty overpriced for what you get. I hope yours is issue free, you enjoy it thouroughly, and at least like others have said you'll have good resale nonetheless assuming nothing crazy happens.

Consider it a long first test drive and definitely drive it home. I took a bus to Boston, a plane to Miami, picked up my 2006 MINI Cooper S JCW and drove it home for a 1600 mile test drive. Take the adventure!

The mentality that a smaller truck cannot cost more, is no longer true. The Tundra TRD Pro doesn't have the degree of suspension upgrades over the regular Tundra. It is nowhere as capable as the Taco TRD Pro off-road.

The Taco TRD Pro is less of a ripoff than the dealer-installed spacer lifts and tacky accessories that can add upwards of $15k to the sticker.
