I emailed the closest 90 dealerships and got responses from about 50 of them.

You need to email as many as possible. The Toyota website has a ZIP code search that will give you all the dealerships website links. Find the contact link and insert your canned email. press send

Thanks man. I'll definitely reach out to him. I think I've read his name somewhere here before on the forum as well. Columbus Ohio is about a 12 hour drive roundtrip from Nashville but may be worth it.

Awesome looking Tacoma and looks like you got a great deal!

Just curious how did you stumble upon him in Ohio when you are down in Texas? Were you looking that far out or did someone here recommend?

Actually a guy in Austin on this forum reccomended him after buying his truck there too.
So I initially sent an email to Dean with the exact specs I wanted, TRD OffRoad etc.
Within 20 mins I got his email reply back with pricing.
    Dean is all over it.
I had some questions over the next few days....always within an hour he replied.
So, I ordered my truck, he was able to get a earlier place in the que for me, truck was built in Tiajuana, I had it in 6 weeks instead of the usual 8 weeks.
I think if you type in his name in the search of this forum his name will pop up.

Awesome I'm definitely going to reach out to him. From the numbers I crunched on your exact set up you got your truck basically at invoice. If he can give me invoice I will definitely make the drive.

Looks like the guy is in the business of actually selling vehicles. Crazy how some of my local dealerships won't deal at all. I realize someone will buy their trucks at $500 off MSRP but I'm just not that guy. Money saved can go into mods when I get her home!

There are two schools of thought on this. The other side is since they know exactly who else you emailed, they can collude.

I just assume that if I email each individually, they obviously realize I'm not just reaching out to them but they don't know exactly who else I reached out to.

When I did it, I didn't tell them who I reached out to (not a group email, but rather a form email), but I did tell them I was reaching out to multiple dealerships. I feel that worked out pretty well for me.

Yeah he has come highly recommended here on the forum. I'm going to contact him once I get everything sorted out. Its a 6 hour drive one way from me here in Nashville but will be worth it from what I hear.

I did the internet sales route, but only for the dealers in my vicinity. A few things I noticed..

No matter what you put in your email, they will ignore it and try to sell you something they have on the lot. Ask for a TRD Off-Road, they will come back with "oh you want to buy a TRD Sport? We have those!" Waste of your time.

If you don't get back in contact with them after the initial exchange, they will continue to email you incessantly.

From what I can tell, very few of the "internet sales managers" are even located at the dealership they support. I walked into three different dealers asking for the same person I emailed and never met any of them face to face.

I've only done this on a small scale (like 6 or 7). I can't imagine trying to reach outside of my general location. I ended up with $500 over invoice and settled with that.

    Good luck!

Got the same thing..I emailed dealerships in 5 different states and all tried to sell you other things..have to be specific or just deal w Dean..no games! Tell them exactly what you want and if they keep emailing u just block to unsubscribe. 2016 Trd off road DCLB 4x4 w tech package, JBL, chrome exhaust, tow package, weather guards and floor mats $37.5 out the door no tax..think $25 for temp plates! Lots of extras already in pic but can't help myself

What I initially did was first called the local dealerships, asked for the fleet managers name.....showed up at the dealership on a Monday...asked for the fleet manager and asked him what his best price was.
They will tell you basically what they will sell the car for.

The last time that I used this method was buying a honda civic lx for my girlfriend. She didn't want any add-ons and wasn't that particular about the color she got. So when she was ready to buy I emailed 5-6 dealerships within a 25 mile radius on the same email and laid out the details of what I was looking for and what I wanted to pay in detail (starting price for negotiation already below invoice). I then stated that I did not have a trade in but that we would be putting 20% down and were ready to buy in the next 24hrs. I then said please reply with your best offer by 10am tomorrow morning and at that time I will be purchasing based on the best price.

The next morning at like 8:30am I read all the replies and started negotiating by forwarding the opposing dealerships respective offers to each other. This eventually got down to two high volume dealerships that aggressively wanted to sell a car or at least were replying to my emails fairly quickly. I would have been happy paying the already great price that I stated I wanted to pay in the first email, but I ended up getting a ridiculously low price (I almost felt bad.. but not really).

Now this was a high volume car model that was not in anyway rare and didn't have any special features, but the theory still worked out very well in this case. I don't believe there was any collusion between the dealers and only giving them 24 hours to respond 'may' have had something to do with that.. I don't know. I also admit that the starting price I listed was a very good price, but not completely unreasonable based on what others were paying on truecar. In the end though I was the dot all the way on the left of the true car what others paid scale.. lol.

I admit that this is not an apples to apples comparison because the Tacoma is in relatively high demand, inventory won't be quite as high, and it can have trims/features that are more rare than others. So you can't just say I want to buy a civic lx and they say ok we have 12 to choose from in that trim.. And you can't start off below invoice because no one is selling them for the price.

In the end I think when you email 10 dealers and ask for their best price and 6-7 come back at MSRP, it's just because they know that there are enough naive/unskilled car buyers out there who will believe the dealerships bullshit about the rare tacoma sitting out front with an engine made of 24k gold. And they also have the data in their mystical computers telling them on average how long a tacoma sits on their lot. If they deem that they can get MSRP two days later by waiting to sell the truck, or get $500 over invoice right now, they may say as business people that it's in the dealerships best interest to wait..

In my best guess/opinion if you use this method and they come back at MSRP then they don't plan on budging any time soon. Move along and find another dealership who just wants to sell volume and is willing to deal.

Just my 2 cents plus a little extra..

Totally true for those types of vehicles. Dealers in SoCal wouldnt even respond or call back when they have suckers walking off the street with intentions to buy. Most wouldnt even entertain a price via e-mail.
