I looked through the diagrams online and to be frank, it looks like a pain in the dick to adapt that mic to Midland or Cobra and it will look like shit on top of being a potential failure point due to all the stuff not encased at the adapter. For all the time spent modifying the radio to get your phantom power, adapting pins, etc this meanders right into just buy a compatible radio territory. Some mods are worth doing, this one probably isn't, unless you absolutely have to prove something to yourself or have nothing but spare time.

Hes done a few hybrid fronts. @ColtsTRD as well as @mh.meir I believe had one. You would need to give him a call to see when he will have time though. It could honestly be a few weeks or more.

As soon as this other new helper comes in a few weeks they will be able to get on top of everything and he can get some new products ready and up on the website. Now that Avid sells Total Chaos and hopefully King very soon, things are going to be even better for the customers. Brandon has got some amazing ideas that need to get fabricated and out to the customers.

Juanito is really doing a great job. I have no doubt with this new guy it will be pretty epic between the 4 of us.

So if you dont mind waiting mang.

Maybe. I figured I have the mic, I have a radio, I've seen it's possible, and since my CB will be mounted out of sight, it doesn't matter what it looks like. I actually was going to make this an adapter that sat between the radio and mic receiver so if someone else wanted to try this mic, I could share a design to make it work with a different radio. Was just looking for some help on the electrical side of things... I'm always willing to learn. I don't have a ton of spare time, but I also don't have a ton of spare money. :D If I can use something lying around, I figured "why not?"...

I would say getting your 7-8vdc without damaging the radio would be your most difficult challenge. Pin swapping could done by hacking up an old 6 pin DIN plug from an old or damaged microphone. You could try the mod and if you smoke the radio, who cares, upgrade time. :D

Haha, I've heard some folks have real issues with CB range - you might be right. I actually wanted to do this not just for the CB, but also for other radios I may use in the future (at home or mobile). One guy in a HAM forum said he adapted this mic to his home HAM setup so he could use his radio while doing other things around the house/yard.
One of these days I'm going to head down to Mesa Amateur Radio Club and get started on getting that license. Anyone here a member of that club?

You are absolutely right - I don't want to have to crack into my radio. Even if I DID find an 8V source inside it, I wouldn't know if it's going to be able to provide enough current for the mic receiver. But I actually have a solution for the 8V - surprisingly enough I have a variable DC step-down module laying around (I put some LED lights in a display cabinet - I was going to tap into the 12v led power to run a little rotating display on one of the shelves that only needed 5v - turns out I was already taxing the LED power supply at like 75% of it's rated watts, so I decided to NOT add anything else to the load). I was planning on adjusting that to 8V and integrate it into the adapter. Of course, now that means that not only do I need to have external power for this adapter, I also need to see if this module provides good regulated 8V (engine running vs. battery only, etc.). Like you said, this may be more trouble than it's worth, but at the same time, I also was hoping to use the mic not only with my CB but other radios in the future (provided I was able to figure out the circuitry). The last thing I want to do is smoke my radio - I've had it for a LONG time (there might be some sentimental attachment there, but I can neither confirm nor deny). :D
