I personally have not but many people on here have and the instructions look pretty simple. It's on my list of "to-do" items. I deliver a lot of expensive merchandise in my truck for my business so I will be doing this in the near future.

Thanks buddy, I knew some of that was coming from reading another person's thread and it's all good.

    Now calling me a #fanboy, that's a little much. It's the first Toyota I've ever purchased! :)

What, they make a Ridgeline for 44K? I had a brand spanking new 2010 Ridgeline I got for my wife. It was a nice truck for everyday use until I let my son borrow it. He crashed it and it was a total loss. Fortunately, I had good collision coverage but it didn't help my premiums. I took him off my policies and he no longer drives my vehicles!

If that were my folks, they would have done the same thing - but in addition they would have secretly buried me in the back yard.

Some people like buying a truck and modding it. Others like buying one upgraded from the factory.

Who cares let people spend their money as they wish.

Congrats on the new truck! Who cares what you paid in the end, if you are happy with it that's all that matters. Is $45k a lot for a truck? Maybe, Maybe not. It's a lot for anything period, no matter what you spend it on.... Do I think someone is crazy for spending $42k on a Toyota Avalon? personally yes.... but that's my opinion. Point being... things cost what they cost, its all just a matter of how much we did or did not finance in the end. Not one of us walked out of the dealership with a half price truck... :anonymous:

Congrats on the new truck. Just purchased a new Super White 2016 TRD Offroad 4X4,auto, double cab, long bed with predator steps last week myself. They wouldn't move on the dealer fee and toyoguard but I was out the door at $36,500.00

If that just had leather or even fake leather I would be so sold. I have a 3 month old and 4 year old and need anything but cloth. /sigh

this is interesting. i'm a first time Toyota buyer, so bear with me if you are interested...

i went to Toyota-Scion of Denton (TX) yesterday simply to sit in a Taco for the first time and get a feel for the notorious seating position and headroom since I'm tall and lanky. (neither was an issue, of course). two salesmen approach me, and i tell him my intentions, to sit in one and just feel the position, and ask what they know about the incoming Pros. i told him i'm waiting for a manual trans, which i hear will come maybe a few weeks after the autos. i'm probably going to buy one.

first, the guy literally tried to argue with me that manual pros don't and won't exist. but i know better... i can read, and did.
after the guy relents, he tells me it would be a special order. "DO YOU WANT TO DO A SPECIAL ORDER?" (he was peeved at me for 'putting him in his place' i suppose, just for not believing his misinformation.
i told him no, i'd like to see some reports/reviews from real world users first, but if they look good, then yes, i'll be happy to special order.
he didn't believe me, and walked off thinking i was playing.
if that dealer COULD get me a Pro MT, then he and the dealership lost a cash sale. idiots.
but if these are based strictly on allocations, then there can be no special orders, right? another guy also checked for me and it sounds like that dealer is getting no MT Pros. that couldn't be possible, could it?

Right so dealer has to have it allocated OR they could possible dealer trade with another dealership to get you the truck you want. They don't "take orders" to build a truck as "you order" it at the factory. They can change some factory options prebuild on an existing allocation but they cannot special order you a specific truck from thin air. It's not like Subway

The Toyota platinum protection plan may be negotiable, but my post you quoted was about the "Toyoguard" platinum plan that the OP paid $699 for. It is a SouthEast Toyota only ripoff. It is different from the extended warrantees and maintenance plans that they also try to sell you which I think is what you are thinking of. Basically it gives you an extra year of Toyotacare and window etching. They also scotch guard your seats or something. It unfortunately is added to every Toyota in FL at the port.

If your dealer/salesman has a history with the distributor they can call and make special requests to have vehicles done a certain way before they show up. I did on my FJ, but I had to check quite a few dealers to find someone that knew the process of "ordering" a truck.

I didn't special order mine but if you catch the truck before port you can ask that the toto guard not be added. I did this to save the $699 as I didn't care about the vin # etching, extra oil change or the scotch guard. Mine was a south east delivery

Yes, we have that Toyoguard crap in NC, too, I guess SE Toyota pushes it everywhere. My 2015 came off the lot, not ordered or traded for, and was everything I wanted, only long bed they had, but had Toyoguard already on it...like all the 'good' ones. I made a bit of a fuss and they increased the trade value to cover it.

When we bought my wife's Highlander a few years back I played hardball and told them absolutely not, deal breaker, and they magically found me the exact same Highlander with no Toyoguard...guess they wanted the sale! Plenty of Camrys and Corollas with no Toyoguard, but you'll find it on most Tacomas & 4Runners. I told the Finance guy Toyoguard hurts him more in the F&I dept...I might be willing to listen to your warranty pitch, but I'm already paying for Toyoguard nonsense...end of discussion.

If my dang air injection pump goes I'll sure wish I had bought the warranty! Lot more profit in the warranty I didn't buy than the Toyoguard. I figure the more the Mgrs hear about it the more they'll tell their dealer principals to cut this crap out. But as long as people pay for it, SE Toyota will add it. Enjoy your truck OP - hope you don't wait long!

Well put, and it's the first time ever that kind of protection package has been shoved down my throat. It’s about $300 worth of value at a cost of $700. Geez, at $700 at least throw in the tire/wheel protection with it, and an extra year on the manufacturer’s warranty. I still wouldn’t like it but at least I’d feel like I was getting more value for an extra $700.

I’m attaching a screenshot of the options description on my truck that gives more description about this coverage.

Dealer swaps are usually with cars that can be easily traded. I highly doubt dealers would swap a TRD Pro especially a manual. The dealer already has a list of prospective buyers.

I hate to say it but your best bet is checking on cars.com till one is available and you might have to travel to get it. You will get best price and can put the pro to good use on a road trip.
