So I am driving back from the Great Smokey National Park this past Monday. At the 90 mile marker on I 81 I was pulled over by Virginia's finest to check my window tint. A Maryland car in Virginia. :woot:The trooper was a young guy so I guess he was practicing how to stop cars on an extremely busy interstate, I was profiled. Told him I had 35% tint all around but he needed to check the state laws. Came back with his meter and yup I was at 35%, have to love Johnson Tint. He said I was legal and have a good day. Moral of the story is to be legal with tint and use a quality tint. Maryland has reciprocal laws with Virginia so if I received a ticket it would be the same if a Maryland state trooper issued it to me.

Hey Tom, glad you made it home okay. I guess not getting a ticket negates being profiled. Did you hear about the new distraction while driving law they want to push through in Jersey? If it passes, you can get ticketed for drinking a drink(coffee, soda, etc.) eating, putting on makeup(should get one for that anyway), or anything that is a distraction when driving. I guess I have to stop checking out the other women then:). I use a blue tooth when driving in Jersey and for now that's legal but that could change if they write it into the law:eek:.

:woot: for being legal and making it home safely!!

In the UK it's illegal to drink UNLESS using a straw. Some people need that law!! evening Ken

Hope to do some fishing this weekend, as they are biting! Last Sunday I went & caught a whole bunch. Wife was pissed that I went fishing instead of doing chores, but I didn't hear her bitching when she was eating 'em.

Welcome Mike. I like the decal!

Ken, I installed a head unit with blue tooth for that reason. Wonder if they ban drinking and eating while driving if all drive thru's will be outlawed. LOL

Good news this week. My wife will be teaching at my sons school starting next Tuesday. Dad's Taxi will get a rest. :bananadance::bananadance::bananadance:

    Morning all:
Thought I missed something until I read the quote from Mike! Welcome, and nice play on TRD!!!
Yup, we talk about anything and everything, sort of like the morning coffee shop crowd, Pics. are a plus.

Been playing at the reloading bench for the first time in awhile, I got a new caliber and needed to buy new dies and various other things I needed to reload it.
So far I haven't found a load that it likes, this could take awhile! :fingerscrossed:

What caliber are you reloading, Carl? It's been a while since I did any myself. I have 3 or 4 new dies sitting on the bench but just haven't found the time.

Got a Bushmaster Predator .223. Been reading a ton about reloading for them, most sites say they can be pretty particular when trying to get excellent accuracy out of them, it has a 1:8 twist 20" barrel. So far only tried H335 with 52, 55, and 60 gr tips, and some factory 55 gr Hornady ammo. Seems like the 52 gr shot the best, but not that great! Next plan is to load some 69gr using 24.5gr H4895, that is supposed to be the load they use at Camp Perry.
Couple of things I should check also, but need to remove the barrel, should check if the upper is square, and that the barrel nut is torqued properly.
If that is OK, might need to buy a "GOOD" barrel if I can't get it to shoot the way I like!:laughing:
    Any ideas on your end????

Sounds like you are hitting all the possibilities. Are you using boat tail tips? I found that my Russian M91/30 snipers are much more accurate with them out to 1000 yards. In the end, it's all about trial and error until you find the right mix for the rifle. But, that's part of the fun!

Mixed, some are BT some aren't. My 22-250 loves 55gr HSP, which are FB. Tried the V Max in 55 and 60gr, which are highly rated for the .223, not impressed so far!
Yea, part of the fun, but can get expensive with all the powder and bullet combinations. My buddy has a Colt AR15 that he worked up loads for, he got it to cut holes at 100. Only problem, his grand daughter got ahold of the paper he had the info. written down on, and it is GONE!
I would say he was definitely shooting heavier bullets because he was using it to hunt deer in Maine.

My .22-250 loves Berger 52 gr flat base bullets but has a 1-14 twist. Your 1-8 .223 will likely like heavier bullets in the 69 to 77 gr. Range.

My problem with my AR is that I can not load the bullets out longer because they will not fit in the mag.

One of my most effective strategies for improving accuracy on bolt action center fires is to seat the bullet just touching the rifling or back a couple of thousandths then work up the powder and load while watching for pressure signs.
Being an experienced reloaded I am sure that you are already familiar with things we do to improve accuracy. I do not bother with reaming, neck turning, and weighing cases for my AR as I do not expect it to shoot to the potential of the BR guys.

Reloading is a fun hobby that we can do to increase our enjoyment of shooting.

Early on in my reloading experience a friend asked me if I saved any money by reloading. My answer was "no I just shoot more for the same amount of money"

Congrats on your new rifle. Now just add some new uppers in different calibers.

I'm not a fanatic either on things like the BR guys, and do basically the same as you do.
My Rem. 788 22-250 is a 1-14 twist also, I get exceptional accuracy out of the 55gr HSP.
I got into reloading because of the Remington 6.5MM Rem. Mag. I have saved a ton of money by reloading for that caliber, and it's looking like the .350 Rem. Mag. will be another one shortly, thank goodness I don't own any of the Ultra Mags!
Just got done loading some 69 gr. Sierra HPBT Match for the AR, will see what those can do.
NO, NO; no new uppers in different calibers-------------Well maybe! :D
All the modern weapons, and last year had to rely on the flintlock to put venison in the freezer, that's just not right! Every time I shoot at a deer with it, it's :fingerscrossed: and  !!!!

Boatswain, you guys in PA have some great whitetail hunting from what I hear.

Until about 3 years ago we could harvest 1 buck and 1 doe or 2 does per day for the entire season, starting Oct 15th for archery, about 12 days before Thanksgiving for muzzleloader season and the Sat. before Thanksgiving for rifle/shotgun season. The season ended on Jan. 31st.

Now we can only harvest 3 bucks per season but still a doe each day although our season now ends Feb. 10th.

Good luck with your hunting and shooting and let us know how the 69 gr. .223 works. I am thinking you will like it.

My AR is 1/7 twist and my black powder rifle is a T/C Encore .50 cal.

My favorite center fire deer rifle is my Kimber 84M .308 although I also like my Rem. 700 Mountain Rifle in .280 Rem a lot too. The best old standby is my Rem. 700 Stainless Syn. In 30-06. Have used .270 and 7mm .08 and 7mm Mauser in the past but not lately.

    Morning all:
HOT AND HUMID, can't wait for this to end.

PA "HAD" great whitetail hunting until Gary Alt was brought in to implement a deer management program. We still have deer, but not on the scale we once did.
One good thing is antler restrictions, now you are seeing bigger racks overall, but unless you hunt near a development you don't see a lot of deer anymore, especially on gamelands.
We can only harvest 1 buck, and that's been the rule since I started hunting. Years back you were only allowed 1 deer per season, and needed a doe tag to even be able to shoot a doe, that's when we had plenty of deer. Now it is all different, this year with what I have I can shoot 1 buck and two does, or 3 does. That all varies by license types and doe permits for management zones.
I have a T/C Omega .50 cal. for my inline, and a Lyman Deerstalker .54 cal. flintlock.
    My 2 favorite deer rifles are a Remington 660 6.5 Rem.Mag. W/129gr Hornadys, and a Remington 700 ADL 30-06 carbine W/150gr Hornadys.
Two years ago I shot a buck with a Remington 660 .308 W/165gr Hornadys, got him but not impressed with the .308.
Got to laugh, I can grab a 300 Win. Mag., .350 Rem. Mag., .270, 25-06, or a .243 to hunt with also, but will always go with either a 600 or 660 Remington or various 30-06's that I have. Also have a Browning A-bolt slug gun that I purchased to hunt in NJ, that would be my last choice to hunt with in PA.
We start with archery, then muzzleloader, then rifle, then end with a flintlock season, so we can hunt deer from Oct. through the first couple weeks of Jan. with the proper licenses.

We both have a lot to be thankful for with our choices of available firearms and long seasons.
