The Dog's Spruce It Up Build (and BS)

Yeah same here I have a custom bed rack and canvas cover now. I am debating chopping it and throwing the RTT on top or going with the leer/roof rack /RTT combo. So many options man and yeah not a fan of dog hair either but we want to get a shepherd when we get back stateside.

 

So just picked up these handy little items for my Hi-Lift from a fellow TW member. Big shout out to @adanfon for killer workmanship on the XL expanded base and slider adapter.

Looking at that transmission jack in one of your earlier posts, I think I need that, not sure for what, but it looks super useful.

 

I just used it the other day when I dropped my BAMF IFS skid - that suckers heavy and that low tranny jack makes it a piece of cake to put on and off. Everything that I've worked on my truck I've done alone and that tranny jack is like a second set of hands. Putting the sliders on by myself was a breeze.

 

Yeah, I only have 1/4" aluminum skids, but it would definitely make life easier when I work on it at home.

Nice build btw, I really like the Spruce mica. One of the colors I wished I had got. And the F5s look good. I want to switch to some scs wheels in the future, but all their options look so good, it's hard to choose.

 

It was between the F5 and the Ray-10's......I love everything about the Ray-10's except the fake beadlock so I went with the F5's which are kind of a classic wheel style. Just need to find some time to prep and paint my rear hubs......

Whatever SCS wheel you end up going with you can't go wrong. Vin is awesome guy and great service. Hubcentric FTW!!!!

 

Repurposed a bracket from home depot and then fabbed up a rectangular washer to secure it to the rail. Three points of contact with the expanded steel base of the hi-lift on the wheel well (helping to support the weight of the hi-lift so it isn't all hanging on the rail) and then each 1/2" bolt through the high-lift. The bottom of each bracket is also in contact with the bed so there is minimal cycling of the brackets from bumps.

 

Install @ Mule on August 25th......

 

Where do you want them to install it? I'm going in on the 23rd for an sPod install, they can copy my mount if you'd like it behind the rear seat

 

That would be awesome! I was trying to use the search function to go through your build thread to see if you have any pics of your setup behind the seat but I wasn't successful in finding any. Do you have any pics of it?

So I wanted to dip my toes into smoking but didn't want to invest in a lump coal smoker just yet so I picked up an A-Maze-N pellet smoker to use in conjunction with my little Weber propane 2 burner grill. One of my co-workers gave me a bunch of salmon so I figured it would be worth a shot.

First, the salmon was brined in 2 cups brown sugar + 1/2 cup kosher salt + 1 tbsp cracked black pepper. It was placed in a dish in the fridge over night and here is what it looks like after 10 hours in the brine.



It's amazing just how much water the brine draws out of the fish in addition to the "fishy" flavor.

Next, alder pellets were added to the A-Maze-N smoker and only the left burner was lit and kept on low. This kept the grill temperature around 200F.





The salmon was placed over the opposite grill that remained off over the course of the 2 hour smoke.

And finished.......on a toasted bagel with cream cheese.



So far a resounding success. Can't wait to try doing some pulled pork.

The next time I'm due for seat covers I'll choke down the cost and go with Wet Okoles + console cover.

In the meantime however, I picked up this little gem for the center armrest which fits quite well.
