Hydroflask Cupholder

After putting the first 50 miles on my truck, I've come up with two ideas that I think meet my needs. Feel free to shoot me down.

1. The front two cup holders, the cut out is large enough for the flasks. But it has a bezeled piece inside it that is too small. Maybe I can remove that, scan it and have a 3D printer make a replacement? Anyone know how to remove that thing?
2. My other idea was to build a saddle bag type thing. Pop up the trim on the center console and put a piece of (ideally) black leather across it with two holders hanging on each side for the flasks. Or two holders on the passenger side for the flasks. I like this idea the best, as it keeps them out of the way more. Any guides on getting into the center console to look around?

I like the Cab Commander and the similar items, but I will have a passenger with me 9/10 times. The inserts in the existing cup holders are wobbly, and even if they weren't, they block access to the climate controls.

 

Love my Hydroflasks, I too always have one on me, be it my 40oz, 32oz, my Growler or one of the three large coffee/hot chocolate mugs, I have from them. When I am on deployment and flying it always gets super cold in the back of the bird so if you want to cool a water or soda or what have you, just put it in the back of the plane but if you wanna keep a drink hot (i.e. coffee or HC) the HF will keep it hot for the whole 4-5hrs up. I'm glad y'all dig your Hydroflasks like I do. Between me and the SO we have way too many of these f'n things. I don't have my truck yet but fitting this in the front seat is very important to me as I commute quite a ways to work and I always like to have water in one and coffee in another.

My SO's 16' Highlander has two huge cup holders in the front and they can fit everything I put in them.

If I can think of any other way to do this I'll be sure to post it here.

This is one thing that really annoys me about the truck. I know it's minor, and I have no reason to expect that it fit, but it's incredibly frustrating knowing that just a couple millimeters more would let the 32oz fit.

According to the reviews, the Winterial 40 oz. is right up there with Hydro Flask.

 

haha! I missed that. Yeah the actual cup holder openings are large enough, it's the molding in side that isn't... annoying.

Holy cow patent trolls -- I love it. I'm all for sticking to a brand but really it comes down to the $.

I bought an RTIC Cooler recently and I love it. Same quality (and design) and half the price of a YETI.

 

That's what happens when companies go to Chinese manufacturing. I believe it's technically a form of corporate espionage rather than trolling a patent. I stick with Hydroflask since I know they started it - and I got to visit them at their hometown. I bought a Yeti for the aftermarket support but honestly wish I had just bought a Pelican (statistically better at its job and made in USA where RTIC and Yeti are not)

What do you mean by "aftermarket support" for the YETI?

[off topic] When I picked up my Yeti a number of companies offered products to support Yeti specifically, as they were "the cooler to have." Things like seat pads, replacement feet, locking brackets, tie down brackets, wheel kits, etc. Pelican was pretty much the only other option. RTIC was advertising (essentially dimensionally the same as Yeti), but had a terrible rep for over promising and not being able to deliver.

On knocking off products - Company A (Hydroflask, yeti, whoever) comes up with/designs and prototypes a unique product. They'll patent it here in the US. They then want to save cash to maximize profits so they have the tooling and manufacturing done in China. The Chinese manufacturer claims to be exclusive for a short time then tweaks and sells the tooling to Company B (Rtic, etc). The cost is much lower as R&D was already completed and the tooling and lines exist. Company B can offer the product at discount with slightly less QA/QC (which customers don't expect for a discount item). Company A has little or no recourse since the bulk of the copying happened in China and they essentially don't have patent/IP rules (unless of course you're a Chinese company - gotta look out for your own). I returned my newly purchased yeti bottle to REI when i found these at costco, 2x bottles for < 2/3rds the price.. 34.99 instead of 59.99.the pic in my earlier post shows one of the bottles, I found a two-pack in black and stainless steel not the fugly green in the link below. Likely made in same factory and the threads fit Nalgene bottle caps

I tried this in on my truck but ended up not using it because the top of the hydroflask was higher than both the center console and the shifter which made shifting really awkward.

 

My '10 4Runner had an extra large cup holder with a fitted rubber adapter for typical coffee cups and whatever. I would just remove it and place it in the door cup holder, then I could put a nalgene or large thermos in the cup holder. Not sure why this design did not cary over to the Tacoma....def disappointed with that oversight.

 

Where could a guy like me get one of those?

You rookies and your little 40oz Hydroflasks. Try finding a way to hold your 64 ouncer! It's impossible.
By the way, Hydroflask customer service is awesome! I dropped mine and the lid cracked, so I called them up. They sent me a new one right away.
