Dome light dims unless something else is turned on

    I have a 2001 4x4 SR5 DCSB Tacoma. I bought it used and it had no bulb in the dome light when I got it. Today I bought a bulb for the dome and when I put it in it lit up just fine, but when I took the key out of the ignition and turned the dome on, it dimmed drastically.

    Whenever I have the key in the ignition and turned at least one click OR whenever I have the overhead lights turned on in the front of the cab, the bulb shines full brightness. But when nothing else on the vehicle is turned on it is extremely dim, what could cause this? Anyone know how to fix it?

    that an led bulb? i believe the newer years need the canbus style with the added resistors to simulate a halogen bulb.
