I would definately call and ask a doctor about the smell and puss. Is the baby irratable or running a high fever time to time, does it bleed at all when you move it. The puss part tells me its infected in some way. Just call and double check especially that young.

according to the link i posted earlier, the smell could be coming from urine if the diaper is pulled up far enough over it.

Yeah, you're not supposed to have it covered by the diaper and keep it dry as you can. Clean out around it with a Q-tip if it's getting pus developing with some hydrogen peroxide.

I have seen those and they seem to work well. Amazingly, we never found those when he was teething lol.

As for the Orajel, I never really had good luck with that. When he was teething, he was just pissed. Even with the Orajel, he would still be cranky. He wasn't a bad teether, but when it hurt he let you know it.

He just liked the orajel in his mouth. He would like swish it around. Almost as if he liked the buzz of it.

Hey Robert, alcohol is for drinking. For all other problems there's duct tape and WD40.

I would still consult a doc about the smell, could be an infection.

Yeah, glad it fell off. Problem is, if you get an infected umbilical cord, it can be real dangerous. Are you talking pus on the stump, or the skin around it? If there's any associated redness or swelling, I'd keep a real close eye on it.

I know it's NY Day, so the peds offices are closed. But if your kid is fussier than usual, or spikes any sort of temperature (> 100.5), I'd get my ass to the ER. Otherwise, I'd say try and get in if they're open tomorrow just to get it once-overed.

Get Gripe water and a small syringe. Hiccups suck with babies, they tend to really throw up when they have it.

Alright. The smell is all gone.

The pus was more at the base and that is all gone. I consulted with a few folks that really know their stuff and the important things were: no redness or high temp at the base and some smell is normal.

My son is 4 months old, on his last two visits to the pediatrician, he found out that he did not gained much weight, 500 grams then 200 gr on the last visit, he's been breastfed since he was born, and the doctor suggested that we alternated formula with the breastfeeding... the visit was two days ago, and we cant get the baby to take the bottle with formula, he has taken the bottle before with breast milk, but with the formula he just cries and cries and wont take it...

I was wondering if some of you guys had the same issue and how did you handle it.....

Try starting him off with breast milk in a bottle and switch him off to the formula
after a short time. It had worked for us only it was water and was switched off with fennel water.

in my experience with my son, a baby of his age has little thought process and will eventually nourish himself with the formula due to natural human instinct to fill his belly with whatever is given to him.

Thanks for the reply, when my wife was working, i would feed the baby most part of the morning with breast milk on a bottle with no problem at all...

Yesterday my wife went out so I had to feed him, I gave him formula and he took it with a lot of less problem, im googling some pages and I found out that the baby can sense the mom and her breasts (lol) so Im beginning to think that mom has to be out of the house for at least a few weeks until he comes around and take the bottle with no problem....
