I did when i first got the truck, just to check out how to do it.
You're right, it was damn difficult to get the stock tool/hook lined up in the hole. It would be a major beotch to do in the dark or in bad weather.

    got pix?

I will try to do the pick thing again, I tried the other day & could not figure it out....LOL

There is another post about a gas tank locking gas cap also that I took & made it better. I took 120pd test line that is ss cable & it has a plastic coating on it. I the hole on the gas cap door I put a small gromet in there made 2 loops & used very tiney crimps & put a hole through the cap....Works better...LOL

The next mod that I'm ging to work on is a light in the center consul & 1 in the glove box......

I assume VHT nightshades was used to smoke the turn signals but that is about the same shade I am looking for so how many coats/what process did you use/preparation/clear coat?

If you mean the amber lens inside the headlight assembly, then I just removed it.

Im talking about the one on the front of the light toward the grille for the turn signal, I though it was more of a clear lens with a yello/amber tint, you removed that one?

Did you also remove the orange reflector on the side of the light?

Have you taken the lights apart yet? The lights are in 5 major pieces:

    1. clear outer lens
    2. chrome bezel (that you paint)
    3. gray back piece (with reflector cone for head light)
    4. amber lens for turn signal
    5. lighter lens for side marker (more of a yellow or pale amber)
I left out both internal colored lenses when I put the lights back together.

I just registered to thanks to the folks here who have posted about various modifications and how to do them, particularly adding cruise control and intermittent wipers to my Tacoma work truck. I really did not know it was possible to add these on after the fact, and am very glad I found out you could.

I had a dealer install the cruise control since it affects driving controls and I wanted a dealer's fingerprints on the job if something potentially related goes wrong. Wimpy, I know, but I'm glad I did since they ended up having to take off the whole dash to run wires to the hook ups on the sides. It works perfectly.

When I scheduled the cruise control installation, the parts manager at the dealer told me that they could not add in the intermittent wipers since "it required reprogramming the computer." After reading the "how to" posts here, I was pretty sure that was BS so I ordered the intermittent wiper stock and just now installed it myself. Took me about 20 minutes and it worked well in my garage.

Can't wait to take a long drive in light rain!

Did you do any sanding to the chrome on the grille itself or just painted straight over the chrome?

No prep. Probably should have. Then again, the factory chrome is coming off just as bad as my unprepped job. I was going to light sand it with a brillo pad or something just to get the loose flakes off and roughen it up a bit this summer. But I got lazy and had a can of Rustoleum in my hand when I took a cardboard shield and threw a layer on while it was still on the truck. lol

Thanks for the input I did it on one and it came out terrible but that was probably due to my lack of spray painting abilities. I'm gonna do the satoshi and I would like to have my grille black but have it all look good so thanks for the input!
