So day 5 of keto style diet and I honestly do not like this at all. I've ate low carb for a while but less than 30g net daily and I'm dragging ass. I woke up groggy as shit this morning like in a fog. I actually fell asleep standing up in the shower. I know this is whole transistion faze but I'm not sure if I will keep this up. Not to mention the hunger is ridiculous I honestly didn't think 50-60 grams of carbs made that big of a difference and it may not it may just be because I can't eat as much because I've kept my calories the same at 2000 even and we all know fat is 9 cal per gram where as a carb is 4.

Anyone else try keto? Any suggestions of getting through the fog or just grinding. I know I've made huge progress on my former macro set and don't fix what ain't broken. But it's just become routine so I wanted to try something else.

It's a low carb high fat diet. The goal is to force your body burn fat instead of carbs for energy.

Finishing the week with chest. Going to try a "proven" program since I don't vary my workout much. Basically three super sets.

I did it. The first week was really tough. Nobody else on this thread really likes that type of diet. You just have to be willing to stick it out through the shitty beginning. To me, the rough transition period is an indicator of just how much of a change you need to go through in order to have your body burn fta at such a high rate. If you can battle through the first few days/week or so, you will really start to see amazing results. Drink tons of water. Black coffee (with half and half if you like cream...pussy - just kidding) was my best friend in the beginning. I burnt out on the diet after 3-4 months. In the beginning I was still making gainz in the weightroom, and my energy levels were still high. I lost 30 pounds over that time period I got down to 238 from 268, my goal was 235 but I just couldn't get there. Towards the end I really started to crash energy wise, and gainz wise, going backwards big time in a lot of my lifts. For example, I was DLing 495 before keto, and at the end of that time period, I could barely lift 405. Anyways, I am rambling at this point...

Fight through the transition phase and you will break through a fat burning barrier like you have never seen before. Although your progress thus far has been amazing and if you can keep going with it I don't think feeling like shit on keto is worth it for you.

You can always up the carbs to help the transition. No reason to put unnecessary stress on your body if it isn't urgent. Stress kills man.

Unfortunately for us, that's not necessarily how it works. It's almost binary, either your body is in ketosis or it's not. Stretching out the transition is really just delaying the inevitable. His body is going to need to switch from running on carbs to running on fat at some point. The transition is going to be difficult no matter how long you put it off.

Yea i think the toughest part is the transition. When your body is adapted then energy levels should go back up. I say keep going and push through it.

Huh, I'll have to read up on keto. I don't have much knowledge on it other than it fucking sucks. It's interesting that you can't "train" you body little by little for it though.

That's what Stacey and I discussed last night. Was my previous regime was about 50-70g of carbs diary for so long and I was making steady drops and didn't feel like shit but on occasion. Eat a cup of rice and I felt amazing. So thinking why fix it if it isn't broken. Tomorrow is a carb load day from hell (celebrating the one year) so may just reevaluate. I do know I don't like the way carbs bloat me up and I really enjoy the look I ve had this week. But I think until I start lifting again I'm just going to stick to what I've been doing. Idk yet.

You know what's best. Your progress has been remarkable, so I kind of agree with your "if it's not broken" ideology. I think I am going to switch to a "low carb" e.g. 50-70 carbs a day diet. I have increased my carb intake to around 200 and I do not like the way it makes me feel or look. Hopefully my lifts don't drop off again when I make the switch.

The "carb high" I would get after eating rice or bread or the like was crazy. I would be so happy and giddy I almost felt drunk, but I also felt like shit shortly after. Our bodies are crazy in the way that they are constantly adapting. We get so used to one thing like having carbs, or no carbs, that introducing something from the other end of the spectrum initiates this crazy reaction.

On another note what the fuck @zacharypaul89 this thread is sinking without your bro-brah buoyancy. Someone spice this shit up.

Haha sorry. I flew to Kansas City yesterday at 8am and drove back at noon. Rolled back into Beautiful Butts County around 1:30am. I was up for 22 hrs straight.

I tracked my eating in MFP the whole trip and wasn't concerned about what I ate, but I just wanted to eat what I wanted and see how bad it was...calculated it this morning. Here goes:

breakfast: spicy chicken, egg, and cheese biscuit w/ grape jelly from Chik Fil A
    in-flight: pretzels and a Coke
as soon as I landed: bag of Flamin Hot Cheetos, bag of beef jerky
snacks during the 15 hr car ride: loaded hot dog from QT, 4 Red Bulls, 2 Muscle Milk's, Slim Jim, bag of Baked Lays, fudge round, footlong Subway (ham, pepperoni, cheese, bacon), orange juice. I also still drank my gallon of water, too....lots of pee breaks...some in the car while cruising down the road

    4681 calories, 204 p, 528 c, 189 f :anonymous:

To level out the HUGE surplus, I'm only eating 1250 calories today and tomorrow.

Gonna try to hit the gym this afternoon for back or shoulders/tris, but I'm still exhausted, so I dunno if it'll happen.

    ^^^This

If your maintenance is 2500 calories and you eat 3000 calories per day, it'll likely be almost all muscle, but it'll be slow. If you eat 4000 calories a day, you'll gain a ton of muscle, but you'll get fat, too.

Much debated topic. I used to like the idea to gain 15-20 lbs of fat during my bulk along with a good 10+ lbs of muscle and then shed the fat on my cut, but I'm starting to lean the other way so I can stay lean(ish) year-round

    Also this ^^^

If you're gaining more than 1 lb per week, anything over that is gonna be fat (unless you're juicing)

It's not so much what you eat, but how far over maintenance you eat. You can get cut on protein powder and Snicker Bars. The problem is you won't be full, so you're more likely to cheat. Eating clean keeps you full and from having a breakdown and eating the whole bag of Pizza Rolls at 11pm. I feel a lot better when eating clean, as well. Micronutrients are you friend!

I absolutely hated keto. I never got past the "brain fog/fatigue" phase though, so I dunno what happens after that. I did lose weight, but your body's main source of fuel is carbs, especially when working out, so depriving the body of carbs doesn't seem ideal to me. I don't want my workouts to suffer because of a diet. You lose weight at a caloric deficit no matter what you eat. I could literally eat nothing but Oreos and lose weight, as long as I'm at a caloric deficit. Your body is going to burn fat for energy on a keto diet, but if you're at a caloric deficit, your body is going to burn fat for energy, anyway. On a keto diet, your body burns the fat you consume through your diet and then targets bodyfat. On a high/med carb diet, the exact same thing happens, but your body burns carbs and then goes after the bodyfat. The only difference is the source of the fuel you put into your body. Like it or not, our bodies prefer carbs over fat for fuel (unless you're a diabetic). But at the end of the day, if you prefer a high fat, high protein, low carb diet, do it. The only major benefit will be the absence of water weight you'd hold from a high/med carb diet, but you can still consume moderate amount of carbs and shed water weight by drinking a lot of water or taking a diuretic. Lastly, shedding water weight isn't gonna make you look shredded unless you're already @tacopaulo lean.

C4 has 1 gram of creatine lol...If you want to take creatine, you need a creatine supp and you need to take it daily with a shit-ton of water or you need to eat about 3 lbs of beef per day. The awesome lifting and pump feeling is from the caffeine, beta alinine, etc.

I didn't even get to eat any bbq :pout: I was so ready to get on the road and the place I picked the car up from was like an hour outside of Kansas City that I just left without sampling any. I would've had to go 3 hrs out of my way to get to Memphis...I wouldn't travel that far for pussy.
