I can confirm the 58 lbs weight of ST Maxx 255/85R16.
I weighed it at work on a pretty accurate scale.

Correct me if I'm wrong here... A lift just changes the ride height. Not the travel range. If you rub with stock suspension, won't you rub at the same place when you stuff your tire with a lift? I feel like it would almost make sense to put the bigger tires on without a lift, trim where you are rubbing, then when you have the lift you won't rub anywhere.

Incorrect. The cab mount and inner fender is where the tire rubs. Lifting it raises the cab mount and inner fender and gives the tire the clearance to turn

I think Ben is right about the travel. A stuffed tire is a stuffed tire. That's why some people can run a 285 at ride height, but once they stuff it they rub. I wouldn't try to put a 285 on stock suspension though.

Depending on how you look at it, a lift either pushes the tire down, or lifts the whole truck up. When the suspension is under compression, and the tire is stuffed to the point where it would be at ride height with no lift, it is going to rub the same spot. If you never take you truck off road or cycle the suspension, you are right, a lift will let you clear the cab mount and inner fender. But if you are doing that, then you probably don't need the St Maxx

But most people aren't going to be compressed all the time. Those who are, cut the cab mount

Well the 255s have a LOT less of a tendency to rub. People who do CMCs are generally running 285s.

Same here! Ordering my 285s over labor day to save some money, and doing the CMC then too. Already have the plates from bamf.

Alright back on topic. 285/70-17. The pictures really don't do them justice. They look beefy as fuck in person.

I chopped my cab mount, trimmed fender liner, and flattened a small part of the pinch weld. My alignment is good but I think it can be adjusted to give me a little more room. As of right now I don't rub anymore but I've been in there trimming stuff probably ten times. Just taking a little more each time then I'd hit some weird angle, hear rubbing, then go back in and cut cut cut. When I have a free weekend and feel super motivated, I'm going to pull my coilover out and stuff the tires to the bump stops and finish trimming for good.
