There's folks out there doing performance tuning on Toyota ECUs.... someone needs to take a truck to one of them and let the tuner work on the ECU.

0210 do tell "how to" since you're now the resident expert!??

That is a joint venture with Subaru and the engine is Subaru's FA20 (naturally aspirated) and I'm willing to bet that the majority of the code in that ECU is from Subaru. Subaru ECU's are wide open for tuning whereas Toyota's are locked down tighter than we all want. I have yet to find anyone able to open up the ECU for tuning like Cobb has done for Subaru, Nissan, Porsche, Ford, Mistubishi, etc.

I'm not the "resident expert," but I'm a programmer with enough experience to have a pretty good idea of what's involved. Your post sounds like the end-result of that children's game where you repeat a message across twenty people and see how it changes at the end. You took something that was communicated to you, and tried to repeat it, but you don't really understand what you're talking about, so it came out as gibberish. (To be clear, I'm not insulting you.) Stating this gibberish as a fact is going to mislead people who don't understand that it it's gibberish.

Doubt this will be any different than the 5.7 Tundra ECU, been out since 2007 and still dont have a great tune on it.Bully Dog and Unichip are working only so so with it

    all tore up already
The part that made me believe toyota would have done the tuning on the frs/brz/86/whatever-the-hell-its-called-today
Is the d4s injection system(toyota tech) and very similar torque curves notably the dip in power. Figure most tuning gain comes from afr mapping, might as well let the guys who engineered injection and intake system tune it. And if toyota did just hand the reigns to subaru to engineer, why couldnt someone else use a stand alone ecu to do similar? Cost.

Not sure of 2016, but most Toyota ECUs are not tuneable. They are read only, whereas other manufactures can be written to.

This is good and bad. Good because Toyota has designed a ECU that can compensate for a lot and learns as it goes. The ECU for my 3rz is well known to compensate for upwards of 10psi of boost with no aftermarket fuel control. It's bad for doing mods and needing to tune it a bit.

Mabey not the right place but I'll ask anyway. If the ecu is locked how do you tell it when you add an aftermarket exaust and air cleaner? Will it recognize the added airflow and adjust accordingly?

I have an engine tune and it made a huge difference. If you want details, contact Optimus Performance in Fort Myers, FL.

you don't tell it. Some CAIs keep the MAF where it was originally and some don't

Their tune guy unlocked/cracked the code. I have 35s and will have them put it on the dyno next week..

It's definitely strong though. BIG difference!!

You bought a Tacoma, not a Subaru STI or a Turbo Diesel. Tuning is non-existent on these things.

Tuning for some Toyota ECUs is happening, and has been since last year. Hardware can be purchased from companies like Alientech, and I'm sure others.
