Hi I love my tacoma 2002 extended cab perfect work truck. Easy on gas but Frame cracked in rear 4 places. Found a fella can repair it but wondering if anyone has success and for how long after repair. He says if front not cracked. Truck can last a while longer but if frame rusting from inside out. Wont front fail too. Or is it usual spots that fail.

From what I've seen on my truck is they do rust from the inside out but the back seems to get chewed up the most. I have holes in the rear, right above the axle but no noticeable holes in the front.

Has your frame been undercoated by Toyota?

Not sure no record of it . Bought used. Toyota Canada says no, have no record and not fixing it. Due to privacy rules wont give me name of previous owner either. But if I can find owner and record it was done..They could reconsider.????

so your Regional Toyota HQ said its not covered or was it a dealer? Just from my experience, the two dealers I dealt with have zero clues about anything.

I have fixed quite a few of these trucks .

Most all have problems in the rear could very well be the heat of the engine drys things out up front .

In any case done correct the repairs should hold up as long or longer then the rest of the vehicle

Info came from National Toyota Canada. It seems bad from the cab mounts back. cracks on drivers side. Passenger front leaf spring shackle broke off detached. Drivers side still structually attached but cracked. rotted at same leaf spring mount area. Limped it slowly home on back roads. Completely unsafe as is But Still works great. Box has hit back of cab, both sides. Bastard who sold it to me. silicone the cracks , then sprayed it with oil to hide it. It was a gamble I lost.

Thing is paying someone to do the job correct is not cheap.

One has to decide each vehicle on a individual base on if it is cost effective

Fellow comes highly recommended. He figures he can do it right for around 1000.00. if just the back.

I read all these posts about the back of the frame. Mine has been patched a few times now up front. Infront of cab mounts and where my front sway bar mounts use to be. I just got it back today and welder said its not good up front. I beat around with a 2' pry bar and there's some scale, but it's solid.
Toyota Canada is calling me back by this Friday they say and I'm going to fight long and hard with them, I'll even settle for some type of compromise. IMO they should do something for a known defect! I've already spent $400 welding my frame
