Ok guys bear with me. I have a 2000 Prerunner with an auto trans and for the last year I have been collecting parts to swap in a 5 speed trans and make the truck 4x4. Hopefully I'll start the swap in the next week or two, but I have one last part to buy. The master cylinder for the clutch, which is easy to find, but my question is what lines do I need that run from the cylinder down to the bell housing? Thanks for any help and I'll be posting the swap on here pretty soon I hope.

There are two lines. A steel tube from the master cylinder. Then a flexible hose to the slave cylinder. There is a bracket welded to the cab, this secures the flex line. Good Luck with the mod.

Awesome. What is your plan for the ECU and wiring to avoid issues when swapping to the 5 speed.

    Same question, interested to see.

Be sure to take pics! Should do a face lift swap too for full Bruce Jenner affect.

I did this same conversion on a 99 prerunner for a buddy at his auto body shop. We pulled the motor and trans. Dropped in a 4x4 motor and trans, I can't remember but think we changed the wire harness and ECU. Install the front end parts. Completed over a weekend. Guy drove that Tacoma for years. You'll like it once done.

My friend finished the same swap on his four door taco not long ago, and he didn't change the ECU, and the truck threw a check engine light. Had it scanned but it was nothing, so he ran it and has had zero issues. I think it's a bigger deal of you swap in an auto. I'd rather leave the ECU alone if I can get away with it. And once we get anoher truck out of the shop and off the lift, I'll start my swap and post pics of the process.

You're swapping the auto for a 5 speed manual correct? I read that the engine ECU will still be looking for solenoid info from the auto transmission and will put the engine in limp mode if it doesn't get the info it's looking for. maybe it's different on the 1st gen.

I'll definitely look into it, and if it will put the engine in limp mode I'll get a wiring harness. Maybe there's a way to bypass it without swapping harnesses

Interested to see the how process. Hopefully you can detail the transmission swap. Considering doing it on my 2nd gen. The 4x4 swap is pretty straight forward electronically. Swapping the auto for manual transmission seems more involved.

This. Ecu thinks tranny is malfunctioning. it needs to sense that its in park or neutral for it to start aswell.

Ecu and wiring harness between the auto and manual is quite a bit different.
