Another thought...While truck shopping on lots and online I have noticed quite a few 2016 Tacomas for sale on competitors lots with 1k to 3k miles on them and wondering why, if those trucks were traded, why so quickly. I'm sure there are many explanations but is one of them a question of quality or is it just 1st year bugs?
But, haven't they been putting vibration free hoods on trucks successfully for years?

I see used cars with as low as 100 miles. Many reasons why they are on lots. Financing issues, rentals, demos, etc.

Agreed, but I don't want my next new truck to turn out to be one of them due to a poor choice. Never had an issue with my 09 from day 1.

When I test drove a Colorado about a month ago there were 2 3rd gen tacomas on the used lot!

Colorado is a better truck if you want to stay on paved roads all day. No one can dispute that

PA salt is going to rot out anything you buy. That state sucks for road salt

Can be the case but my 03 Camry and 10 Rav have/had zero rust and were in PA the entire time.
Sold the Camry last year...not a spot on it. One (of many) reasons why I stay with Toyota. The 02 Taco had a new frame but never a spot of body rust.
Neither came with a vibrating hood as a standard feature :)

Not referring to the body. Look underneath and the suspension and undercarriage looks 100 years old

Nope...both were completely solid. Maybe it is more of a truck thing.

I've inspected hundreds of vehicles that came from PA. they're all toast. Maybe you're just used to it and don't know any better

PA uses something even worse than salt , it's some type of spary brine chemical , I've seen it eat through oil pans, it's nasty stuff.

3rd gens have longer hoods (Pedestrian impact zone.. or so I've read), Toyota made a lot of 2nd gens with scoops as well. Both of those factors mitigate most of this vibration you see when comparing 3rd to 2nd gen hoods. The way a 2nd gen hood is constructed is the exact same as a 3rd gen.

ETA: Sport guys (hood scoop models) aren't complaining about hood vibrations. Its mainly us guys with SR5's or TRD OR's (flat hoods).

My first year 2005 Tacoma hood has the same gummy adhesive crap (that has been loose for many years now) as my 3rd gen did from day one.

I'm guessing Toyota carried over the same 2nd gen manufacturing method on this hood but never took into account the extra length of the hood. The giant open mouth grill in the front probably doesn't help things either, especially at highway speeds.
