you sure the driveshaft isnt just rotated so that they are pointing up and you cannt see them? did you feel all around for them or back the truck up a few feet to see if they are there and rotated down?

Something's not right. You somehow may have got screwed. 4X4's may need the lube to be replenished if you off-road because as you go rock back&forth to navigate thru sticky situations, they take a huge beating and heat can cause the grease to drop out.
Take to the dealer to get the correct U-joints, call Toyota if they give you trouble.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

My 2016 (mid-July build) 4x4 has zerks on the front, the rear are sealed units.

Mines a July 2016 build too. Not sure how to find out if it's early middle or late July though... :)

Yea, that's what I'm thinking too. I do fire roads hunting for firewood, and snow, so no rock crawling if I can help it. These will be fine for me. If I was wheelin' recreationally I'd swap them out.

The U-joints will probably last a good while (figure ~90k or more). When they fail, just replace them with greasable U-joints.

Also, unless you are dropping massive load on them instantaneously (like racing for example), they don't tend to just explode. You should be able to tell they are starting to go with other symptoms during daily driving. It is a little hard to tell though if one binds without taking the driveshaft off, but that should start to cause some vibration issues if one binds up. Spicer u joints are some of the best, I'd expect they last a good while on the truck.

I asked the dealer since it was being unloaded while I was there, 7/14/16.

People complaining u joints aren't greased from the factory. They fixed up your red wagon by just removing the fittings

That may happen when you get on some slippery muck, and you're spinning wheels. I'd rather have fittings to replenish the lube afterwards, and I'm sorry that it looks like they took some of the fittings away. Glad I bought mine when I did, it's one less thing to change out for me.

    roflmaooo!

That's exactly what I thought after reading others are missing them too. Now they can't complain that they're dry, idiots! lolo!

I had a 94 Toyota pickup, pre Tacoma days, 2wd, sealed U-joints, at 220k miles when I sold it, original ujoints, original clutch and original rear brakes shoes...

    Don't sweat the simple stuff.

I can attest to that, I once put around 300k on a Toyota truck and couldn't kill it and sold it with the original U-joints and suspension.
It's also why I'm baffled about this dry u-joints nonsense ppl are falling for.

Just curious how often you greased your u-joints to have them last so long and did you ever haul/tow or do a lot of off road driving?

I never greased them, it was 2wd so no off-road or muddying either, but plenty of flooded street action up to the head lights at times, and at least once over the hood. And no heavy loads, only gardening and weekend warrior home projects.

But mine’s not the exception to the rule by far.

I have a bud of mine who still has his ’92 with last time I checked, some 400k on it.
No joints replaced, just an inline fuel filter that got clogged at 175k, supposed to have been replaced at 36k, his bad.
Only other thing he done was the alternator at 250k because he was afraid it might leave him stranded, but the guy who rebuilt it told him it was still in great shape, could have gone a lot further.
He loads that truck because he’s contractor and used it to carry roof shingles when I had to re-do a small area of my roof.
I think it was like 12-14 shingle packs that weigh in around 100lbs each?? IDK for sure but they’re heavy, plus some plywood so I know he has no mercy on it lolo!

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

WOW, that seems unreal and makes you wonder why they all don't come that way. I see why the 4x4 would have zerks, but with that crazy longevity it would make sense for all 2WD to come sealed.
