yeah, as far as autos, fill it to the fill hole, put the plug in and get it to operating temp, do a few shifts (but don't move) from p to d to r... etc.. to get the fluid moving through the valve body to the clutches. Top it off to the fill hole.

so i glad you bring this up: the one thing that has been stopping me from doing ATF was the temp game that you gotta play (and i know theres a thread on here, watched it numerous times). I dont really feel like having to do all that. SO from ppl that have probably done this before, is that sufficient enough, just fill up to top of the hole, shift gears a little to let it fill in cracks at running temp, then top off again and call it a day???

that would be SO much easier, as long as its acceptable

That's what we do in bmws. But we can watch the fluid temp on our diagnostic machine.

I've not yet done a taco :anonymous: but i imagine it would be the same way. Since there is no dip stick.

Just make sure you're between 115-135 F for the fluid temp when you check. You have a scangauge or ultragauge thingy...use that for trans temp.

Transmission fill plug won't come loose. I've been PB blasting it for three days now before trying. The 24mm wrench it calls for fits very loosely and is beginning booger up the bolt head slightly so I'm afraid to really crank on it hard. 23mm won't fit. I thought a 6 point socket would be good to get some grip on all 6 sides of the bolt head, but thanks to the front drive shaft, you can't get a ratchet in there without like 8" of extension making it almost impossible to crank hard without slipping off the bolt head.

Any suggestions? Somebody make my day...

That's a solid two beer job, three with the extra labor removing/reinstalling the drive shaft. Shop rates may vary

I find that if I try to work around some obstacle, like that drive shaft, I end up causing myself more headache then end up removing the obstacle anyway. The times I remember this fact and remove the obstacle when necessary I always reward myself with an extra beer
    ...or eight lol

So I'm thinking it might be easier to see if I can find a 6pt box end wrench than it will be to drop the drive shaft to get a 6pt socket on. May be a hard item to find though.

Might not be a bad idea to get a new plug to just change out and not worry about fucking the current one up.

the ultragauge II doesnt have the trans temp. nor can I adjust the parameters to get it to pick up due to it being the EM Plus or whatever. gotta have the Xm model or some shit.

I did get the xmsn fluid "changed." only 2 qts came out when I opened the drain plug, I thought this was a little low, but when I went to refill it, I could barely get 2 qts back in it before it spewed out the overflow plug. I closed the overflow plug, gave it 2 more squirts and sealed it up. No issues driving home. I was surprised that after 75K the fluid was a brown...and not a blackish. Kinda sucks only replaced 2 qts outa the 7 or whever it calls for total, but the only way youre going to get all of it is a true trans flush, which even some dealerships dont do. The way I see it, something is better than nothing, especially since Toyota says you never have to change the auto trans fluid. (Used toyota ATF WS for it, like $8.?? a qt, bought 4, used 2, gonna keep one for backup and return the other).

I also changed my t-case fluid, it came out a nice brownish/gold, but now its all nice gold again with lucas 75w-90 gear oil. got about 1.25 qts in there, maybe slightly less due to overflow.

now I have successfully changed all fluids in the vehicle atleats once (engine, trans, tcase, diffs) I think that's all of them. spark plugs are still good for another 15k...looks like 70k mile maintenance is complete (Ill check all the chassis bolts once add the BL next week. they shipped today)
