I think that the Aisin Warner transmissions are fairly durable. They are like the Japanese "Allison" transmission. At least we have that going for us. Cheers

Mine does exactly like the video shows in post 10.....showed it to service advisor when I took it in...I posted this on another thread:

I too am having this same problem in morning, I even had a video of rpms and speedometer and took to dealership with complaint...and of course they said they found nothing wrong....happens EVERY morning in neighborhood when I leave my house...almost sounds and feels like engine goes into neutral split second before shifting...not sure if it is 2-3 or 3-4 but speed is always around 27 mph (speed limit on my road is 25 so no fast starts , I also have the annoying gear hunting all the time....I was pulling an unloaded utility trailer on interstate couple of weeks ago went approx 60 miles and I bet it changed gears 150 times just trying to hold 70 mph ....tried both ect and not...and I usually don't use speed control but after hearing others complain I tried it the other day on interstate (no trailer) and it would constantly up shift Hard up shifts like I was trying to floor it.....this is SOOOO agravating....I just want my 2010 back !! tsb was not out when I took to dealership a couple of months ago....but not sure this is pertaining to this tsb

TSB will correct a lot of the gear hunting at certain speeds but regarding the flare, does it go away when the transmission is up to temp? Just trying to determine if this is only when it's cold that you see the flare.

I agree with jsinnard. The TSB, and a proper fluid level check, is a smart first move. Then, I would disconnect the battery for 30 minutes, reconnect, and let the car learn your driving habits for a week or so. Then try a dead cold acceleration at about 30% throttle and count the gears. Look for a flair there. Cheers.

They are pretty durable since almost every automaker uses them.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Aisin_transmissions

General Motors, Ford, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Saab, Audi, VW, Volvo, Dodge, Jeep Hyundai are just a few that use the Aisin/Warner Trannies

I asked service advisor to check transmission fluid and he said they did and it was fine...I then asked how did you check it and he responded with computer...I said I wanted it checked manually and he said he had never heard of the way I was talking about...I told him I watched a video of it being checked and the equipment being used in video had toyota on it....when I called about getting truck in to have this problem checked they gave me a 2 O'clock appt time???? I asked how will this be enough time to check my problem? And they said I could leave it overnite....I guess if they had it all day they probably don't look at it for 2 hours anyway....I hate dealerships and their runarounds....but I will take this further Monday with the 800 number.....love the trucks looks and interior (this is my 4th Tacoma) but just wished it was a smooth ride transmission wise

This sounds encouraging but I am not having the r-d delay or other problems that this tsb shows ...so I am not sure my dealership will do it

If you call Toyota Customer Service with a legitimate transmission complaint (a known issue at Toyota right now) they will make sure your truck gets the TSB and that your fluid is checked.

Howanic, is there long term memory in the transmissions adaptive learning as well? Does that only clear through Techstream?
