Luckily, I have a friend of mine who is about 25 years younger than me. Not only does he love to work on cars but he loves Toyota's. He lives in a 3/2 beer state and a few cases of real beer gets me some help with the hard stuff. He helped me replace all my suspension a while back. He even had two buddies there to help. 3 cases and a C-note. I helped here and there. Limber, I'm not!

Just google search for how to rebuild or replace the contacts on Toyota starters. The design and internal parts are all about the same for many years and Toyota models from this era. The only real difference between models is the outer housing and the shape of the contacts.

    http://www.dormanproducts.com/itemdetail.aspx?ProductID=1049&SEName=02349

This includes 4 types of contacts to match the various shapes on different models. Order it online or see if your local store has it or can get it.

I have about the same miles and the 2.4. Thinking about doing it as maintenance but I read some go over 200K.

Just get OEM rebuild kit and swap them out with the new plunger. The plunger i99% of time this is what fails. The OEM rebuild kit is probably around 30 bucks and Denso makes very reliable starters. Contacts are a wear item.
