You know we got that USB / Aux jack there under the AC controls

This is the best picture I could find in 2 minutes of Googling.... (Upper left corner of the image)

Has anybody been able to tap into the back of this jack and run a parallel one somewhere else? I want to add one into the center console box for hooking up and leaving an iPod.

Is there any good info on doing this. I still want the one in the dash to work also, thus the parallel reference.

But that doesn't even come close to what I want to do. That would give me power right next to the jack I already got, it would not

    1) Be in the center console box
    2) Feed into the Aux or USB of the head unit.

    But thanks for the thought.

I'm thinking your best option is to remove the usb from the factory location and relocated it into the console using something like this. https://www.amazon.com/RAYSUN-Femal...471191640&sr=8-2&keywords=usb+extension+mount

Then you could put something like this back in the factory location if you want to still have power. https://www.amazon.com/CH4x4-Toyota-Small-Power-Socket/dp/B00TEICVHY

To add data capable usb ports would require a powered usb hub and I'm not sure that would even be compatible with the head unit.

since the USB connects at the back of the head unit i would look to see if you can split it at the head unit. i would try and find a diagram/pic of the back of the head unit????

I've been looking to do this since I bought the truck. I had the stock entune head unit out yesterday to wire up an oem plus amp system (great system, btw) and there is no way that I can find to split off the usb/aux port behind the dash. I want to run a usb port to the glove box to put my Ipod and cable in there. I don't like having the ipod and cable visible. The dash port is wired in to the head unit using a small Toyota connector, and is a single cable to the dash for the USB/aux port. There is no USB port in the back of the entune head unit like on most aftermarket double din units. I have spoken to several knowledgeable audio installers, and so far no one has a solution to add a second usb port to the stock head unit. You can, obviously, add a second powered usb port to the truck but it will not be a data port, only a charging station.

The best suggestion I have heard is to take the dash port out of the dash, connect a usb extension cord and an aux extension cord to the port behind the dash and then run the cords to wherever you want them to go. You then need to find a dash port cover to cover the hole in the dash. This is probably what I will do. Anyone know where to find a dash port cover?

For anyone hating on the Ipod, the entune unit runs my 120G Ipod flawlessly. Search around for the problems people have had managing a large capacity USB stick.

Hmm, this could be nice. I'm on team iPod myself, and who can really fault it? My iPod has lasted 10 years at this point (2006 pre classic iPod video) and it's got a hair over 10,000 songs on it and navigates very quickly in Entune. It also syncs effortlessly in iTunes and has all my playlists on it.

For now I just plug it in and sit it on the QI charging pad since I don't have a phone that works with it anyway.

That OEM lower panel USB port doesn't have to be inoperative:

Is this for charging or running data to the head unit?

That's a great question... I haven't attempt it yet and am concerned about doing it also. So far I haven't seen any videos that show this panel coming off.

No, I want it to feed to the head unit as the USB and / or Aux input.

I am like others who have mentioned having a bunch of music on an iPod classic and just want to leave it permanently attached and charging while the truck is on and available for playing from when so desired.

My last vehicle (2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe) had an iPod connection in the center console compartment (USB and Aux plug combo) that I did just that... So the iPod was always available charged and always available as the Aux input on the head unit. Nobody would see it in there and it was not flopping around during driving.

Did anyone figure this out? Also has anyone noticed some crackles playing music from an ipod with the USB? At first I thought it was the song quality but then I switched it and i could still hear them every now and then. Im going to use a flash drive tomorrow with the same song and see what it does.

So I completely understand what the OP wants to do. I'm thinking that he will have to find a 'Y' connector for both the USB and aux in, then run one side of the 'Y' connector from each the USB and AUX to the original dash piece and the other to the glove box using this:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VAIEAUM/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A11ID9O6IRX38

    OP, does that make sense?
