Fuel economy is irrelevant. You lift your truck, your economy will suffer. You don't buy a Tacoma for the economy and you don't entertain lifting it if economy is a concern for you.

I love the people who want to get the "look". And then find the lightest POS tire to save their fuel mileage

Toytec Boss lift with rear add a leaf
Hey guys. I'm new here but I've been a Tacoma owner for 5 years and sold my 07 for a new inferno. I've read posts on here for countless hours and I'm finally making my first post for my questions below. Sorry for the long post in advance.

I just picked up a 16 Tacoma Sport 4x4 double cab. I had an 07 for the past 5 years and loved it. When I saw the 16' inferno last year I new I had to have one. A few weeks ago I picked up my inferno used with 2000 miles on it because it's exactly what I wanted- inferno, sport, double cab and 6'2" bed.

Anyway, I'm getting the front windows tinted tomorrow and it's going in for TRD Pro 17's matte black, and BFG KO's on Wednesday. Can't wait!

My main question is for what I want to do next- a lift. I guess I'm in the minority because I don't want a big lift. I only want max 1-2" in the front and 2-3" in the rear. I don't want it to affect my ride either, I essentially want it to aesthetically make the truck a little more aggressive looking. This is my daily driver, it barely/never goes off-road other than my backyard to load firewood, and I haul with my trailer about a ton of wood at a time about 7 times in the fall so this is the other reason I want to adjust the rear... the rear I'd like something that's not going to sag when I hook up the trailer like stock will/does.

Right now my truck has about an inch of rake from back to front measuring from center hub to fender. I don't mind another inch or two of rake after the lift.

From everything I've read so far I'm leaning towards adjustable billstein 5100's in the front with factory coils and old man emu springs in the rear. Or just an add a leaf or helper spring in the rear. I'm trying to do this without going overboard on budget as well.

If at all possible I'd like to stay in the $1500 range including labor as well. If that's not possible at this point I'll hold off for a while but again, I'm not looking to do a 3"+ lift so I think from all I've read I'd be able to minimize some cost there.

Thanks for any input you can give me or any suggestions from the guys/girls who may have done something similar.

This is a great site and I appreciate the info on it from all of you.

More pics to follow but this is from the day I sold my 07.

    Thanks,

    Welcome and nice truck(s)!

I'm in your camp- I have a new DCLB OR model and if I do any suspension tweaking it's going to be minor, and I have to be conscious of load carrying and towing as well.

I can tell you right now I am leaning towards Bilstein 6112's up front, 5160's in the rear and either a Dakar pack or the Wheelers 5 leaf pack. It would be a step up from the 5100's, but my travels will take me on miles and miles of unpaved roads for hunting. From what I've read here and elsewhere the 6112's would be a better fit (for me). This set up would put me at or a little above $1,500 depending on vendor.

With your intended use- the 5100's should work fine. I think the Wheeler springs will get you about 2" rear lift, the Dakars a bit more. Dakars are a little cheaper though. Talk to some vendors like Headstrong or Wheelers and tell them what you are looking for and see what they say..

Thanks for the reply. Every leaf spring I have looked at other than Boss say this, "Double Cab Long Bed trucks may experience less lift than listed."
    Frustrating but understandable.

I'll keep doing my research and call some vendors to get more specifics.

I'm very new to lifting but have learned a ton the last few days just reading on here. Much appreciated!

My 07 had a broken leaf years ago so I got the replacement 4 pack and new rear shocks done at my local mechanic. As a result I needed to lift the front and I went with a spacer and new coil overs and shocks to get me to a 2" rake. That made for a stiffer ride which I was fine with, but after driving my new truck the last week it's quite a dramatic change and I'd like to stay as close to the ride quality as possible.

I get between 15-16 mpg. It is a concern for me since my wife's drives about a 100 miles a day. 18 would be ideal, 16 sucks. But we wanted to go the route. I'm lucky, my h/c/i/s 4100lb car gets good fuel mileage. I average 18-19 mixed driving. But in the end, you gotta pay to play.

What psi are you running? If I run 30 psi like it says on the door I'm around 16-17 mpg's. I played around with it and I'm at 36 front and 34 rear. Now I get 18-19 around town and 20-23 on the highway depending on hills. Just something to try.
