It's not adviseable on a modern vehicle. Battery acts as a buffer. Voltage can spike over 16 volts if you try and run on just the alternator

Battery does act as a buffer, however that voltage should be regulated coming from the alternator. I'm not arguing the point that you should do it. I'm just saying for a quick min to change out a battery without letting the monitors and setting reset it should be fine.

I know your gonna say that also not recommended lol which your right but it'll be ok

I work on automotive electrical systems every day. If you want to unhook the battery, have at it. Job security for me

If you unhook the battery... Wait 20 minutes....
Then hook up the battery again....
    Will the computer reset?

    I think it will

Well I'm a geologist, so I'll advise us all to crack open that Sunday evening cold one, and I'll get back to you guys on what I come up with once the battery is *fully charged* tomorrow

I'm not saying I've never seen a failure in general, just not from leaving run strictly off of the alternator for a brief minute

Thats a pretty rude thing to say in a thread where someone's truck isnt running and is asking for help.

I myself would actually disconnect the battery without the engine running and the truck off with the key removed and wait a few minutes then hook it back up and try again.

This is one of the reason this site is a hit or miss. Someone actually needs help and someone makes a rude comment because they ddint agree with another individual. Now this thread will get locked and OP will not get help

OP here. Let's get back to helping my stupid ass and quit the dick measuring.

I'm going to pick up a volt meter tomorrow, and when I test the battery, a low reading might be an indication of a damaged battery cell, right?

That's correct. If you are at like 10.5 or under battery is probably toast

    Yeas
Also, you could have good volts but the amperage might be bad. You could have damaged a cell inside the battery, you would still get proper voltage but you may not have enough amps for the battery to work properly.

This is what I'm thinking. Mostly because my charger reads "fully charged", but clearly it's not putting out the power
