So I'm thinking of making a change, but not sure I want to bite the bullet. I'd like to see/hear your thoughts.
I have a 2009 TRD Sport 4x4 DCSB. Lifted ~2" on Billie's and a progressive AAL. I have it built exactly how I want. 92k miles and it is paid off. I love my truck. No issues at all, the only reason I'm looking at a change is to get a newer truck and have a truck that holds value better than my current Tacoma (which is already awesome).
    So...the question is...
    A) Keep my truck?
    B) Buy a 2015 TRD PRO for ~ $35k. I'd have to finance about $8k of it. Probably just a 1 year loan.
    C) Buy a 2017 TRD PRO for ~ $45k-ish. I'd have to finance about $18k. I'd do a 3 year loan on that one.

I know what I'm steering towards but thought I'd see what you all are thinking about my situation.
I live in Colorado and about 80% vehicle use is daily driver, and the 20% is camping, going to the ranch, camping, etc.
I have always wanted a PRO, since they came out in 2015.
    Thanks!
    Steve

Must be nice not having a car payment....

If you are debt free (minus a mortgage) go for a 2017... If not, wait any pay off some of your debt

No one here knows "your situation" other than the small amount of info you provided. What is your financial situation? Can you afford it? Do you have a family that depends on your truck for transportation? If so, what do they think?
Upgrading from an 09 to a 15 or 17 is reasonable depending on your financial situation.
Are you thinking of a used 15 pro? I don't think a 15 pro can be had new at this time. I don't think the 17's are out yet either so the pricing you quote may not be accurate.
If you can afford it, then go for it. Get the truck you want. Only you know if you can afford the payments.

If it was me I'd keep the 09 since it's paid off and do add ons or TRD pro facelift. Second option would be get the 2015 TRD pro. The 4.0 has proven to be very reliable. I don't think they have gotten all the bugs out of the new motors so I wouldn't consider it an option at all

Given that you know how the 2nd gen 15 will be for the most part, go and test drive the 17 a bunch of times. One of them will eventually make you feel fuzzy more than the other.

I would just go ahead and get the 2017, don't worry about the money part, life is short, enjoy yourself while you can.

Guess I'm contrarian by nature. Keep your awesome and paid for truck and pay off debt/mortgage. My 2 cents.

    Keep it!
    Current vs 2015:
    1) Your truck already holds a great resale value.
    2) It's paid off! Is a slightly newer, nearly identical truck worth $8,000? If you get a '15 the only major differences are cosmetics and the head unit. There are a plethora of aftermarket touchscreen GPS head units that are likely better than OEM.
    3) You have the same front suspension as a '15 Pro (which I'm sure you already know). Your rear suspension is arguably better than the '15 Pro, minus the reservoirs. So the suspension aspect really isn't there.
    4) With that $8,000 you could build a mid travel setup that would blow the doors off of a '15 Pro and still have money for a head unit and much more.

    Current vs 2017
    1) Sure the '17 Pro has better suspension and is basically an all new truck, but is it really $18,000 better? Not if you ask me.. After all, it is still a Tacoma. $18,000 could buy another vehicle.
    2) Again, you could dump half of that money into your truck and have a killer vehicle.
    3) Most new vehicles need a few years before all the bugs are worked out. I never buy vehicles that early.

Finally, you said it yourself; You love your truck! It's built just how you want it, no issues, low mileage for a Taco, and no payments.

I'd love a 17 pro, but I think it's major appeal is the limited number going to be built. My 15 is paid off and I've put about 5 grand of mods into it. I could afford one, but don't think it's a good investment for me.

Great point! Instead of pissing away money at the bank (interest), use that money to pay off your mortgage, loans, etc.

Thanks for all the input. My financial situation: My only bill is my mortgage, which I'm ok with; actually thinking about switching to a 15 year loan. I only have 1 kid and her college invest account is doing good, about $10k currently. I would not be concerned about the loan, since I'd pay it off within 1-3 years.
I actually only put the 17 on there just to see what you all thought. In my brain, my only choice is to keep my truck or get the 15 PRO.

92k on your current one? Unless it is rusting through all over the place I'd keep it. It's set up just like you want, why get into any debt at all for another one? You can have that truck for years to come....

If all your finances are in order, I would invest that money into your retirement fund. You like your truck, why get rid of it? :notsure: The money could be better spent elsewhere.
