While installing my drivers side UCA bolt I had to take off a screw holding a wiring harness on the left side of the battery compartment, I also had to disconnect a single red wire in front of the battery case, Pictured..., this red wire when disconnected will light up your dash like a Christmas tree, but more importantly will not allow it to start. Discovered this by accident.....

Looks to me like an opportunity to add a remote switch to disable anyone, including yourself if you forget about it, to start your vehicle.

Could be a good long term parking or any remote parking or high crime area deterrent to theft of your truck. I may consider this if I have any time for it.

Anybody know what this wire is for?

    Yah it looks lame,

but if you don't know what its for you probably need to be aware of this little red wire...cuz it may come up and bite you in the ass someday if you dont.

If I had the desire I would look at the 24 hour techstream stuff and nail this down, I have never seen a single wire so visible on any vehicle as to have the capability to disable it....

best case to any owners advantage is another level of security, in cab toggle switch...

Case made, information passed, I now where it is and what it does, the rest is up to you.

I like your thinking... I live in a very low crime area, but always like something like you are suggesting.. did it on all my snowmobiles and ATV's for years... saved 2 machines one night... I almost caught them, but the toggle switch saved the machines..
Just where is this wire laying...???
Sounds like a mod. I'd do... thanx...

I highly recommend against that. It's gonna store codes. Even if it clear when reset the history codes are still present. If you do in for a issues they are going to see all these codes and not have a clue where to start on your actual problem. Just food for thought

Curious as to what this wire is. If you want to disable your truck though, there are better wires for that plus you'd know what you're be splicing into.

I'd have to do some more research, but the first that pops into my head is the IGN fuse under the steering wheel. I bet if you pulled that, the truck wouldn't start. Then you'd know whether or not to trace the wire and splice into it

If you open your hood stare down at your battery it is lying wide open forward of the tray , a single red wire with a two conductor black connector.......granted this is on a TRDOR, may not be on an SR5 or others, but that is yet to be seen, ..with that said there is the mechanism to disabling your vehicle. Your instrument panel will light up, push to start no op....what codes this throws I did not check as the check engine did not stay illuminated after re-connecting this wire...I usually associate that with no code....but on a newer vehicle I am not 100% something is not stored....

I almost am willing to spend the 12.95 or whatever the cost is for 24 hour access to the toyota tech database...I wonder if anyone has been scammed with this little red wire into a hefty repair bill.....but on the bright side there is some positive options looming if we can identify the real functionality and purpose of this run and use it as a personal "nobody is taking my truck" switch mod.

My plate is pretty full right now and I probably will come back to this, but it sure would be nice to see someone come up with the answer as to what this "single red wire feature" is.

Lol just wire a starter or ignition kill relay in, much easier and safer than messing with something you have no idea what it's for

Well that's my point being its something worth finding out what its for, and knowing its there, its readily available easily accessible and depending on the situation could be your worst nightmare, or your best friend. If the kill switch was something easily done let me know where its documented as I would trust TW motor heads to already have done it long time ago and posted it.

Like I said I stumbled on it by accident...
