Joining the volunteer fire department

I actually do a lot of cooking

 

I have been trying to learn all the tools and equipment as well

Unfortunately in today's climate it is very important to maintain situational awareness for yourself and your crew. Watch for things that don't feel or look right.

Practice the Mayday procedures for the department. Know them.

Don't know if it's been said. I'm not much older than you so I understand the uncertainty you may have about what your about to get into. I started when I was 18 at a local rescue squad. Got fire certs, emt and now been a medic for over 4 years. I loved volly but I can honestly say working for a bigger or very large city (I work for nashville fire in TN) is honestly one of the best experiences you can have. Just enjoy it.

Main advice. You have 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason. Take it all in. Because one day. That probie might be sent to you to learn the job.
