I know there have been threads about this before. Most of them say install updates if there are some and it will fix it. No updates appear to be available. I'm just curious if anyone has had this that got it fixed and what fixed it. So basically I'm on a long trip right now and yesterday I unplugged my USB stick with music on it. From that point on the radio just suddenly reboots itself. Might be 4 minutes or 2 hours. I was able to get a video so the dealer doesn't think I'm crazy.

Nope, that’s never happened to me, but I don’t keep it at the app screen, I play the radio, usb use the phone and connect google maps for nav.

Hope the dealer can help you out
    Cheers!

Mine does it too. I use the trace feature on the gps to track all the places I've been and every time it reboots it erases all that data .

Mine did this all the time too. Took it in to the dealer had them plug it in to their computer, installed all updates and haven't had a single problem since.

There are 3 active threads on this topic that have popped up over the last 2 days. I've noticed that most of the people posting are in Texas, where we're experiencing the first rain that we've had in some time. Mine began constantly rebooting yesterday and this morning I had the opportunity to play with it a little more.

When I first started the truck, I listened to XM for about 20 minutes with no issue. Switched to Pandora on the head unit, and the reboots began again. Played around with restarting phone, signing in and out of Entune, etc. and System continuously rebooted. Switched back to XM, and system rebooted. Turned off Bluetooth on the phone, switched to XM and experienced no more reboots.

Man, this is frustrating. I save all my tracks while I'm offroad. All of the tracks were deleted the first time that the system rebooted. I lost all of my work that I've done exploring and scouting for hunting season this year. Personally, I never rely on the GPS to keep me out of trouble offroad, but I know it's easy to begin taking technology for granted. I can see where this type of malfunction could make for a long night if you were relying 100% on the GPS birdseed to get you out of an unfamiliar offroad location.

So yea this started happening today to me and I'm also in the Austin rain.

I was driving to HEB which is only a few miles away, rebooted once on the way there and twice back to back on the way home. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to have them look at it. I wasn't touching the radio just had satellite radio on when it happened.

Well, first off its just not a radio....
My first pass guess is they did not release this version of Entune with enough processor power and/or memory to manage what they have packaged. The GPS is the most processor intensive app in the suite. with those two things being said your experiencing the old page fault type of errors, causing a system reboot. I am not sure what the updates do or if anyone does, maybe the dealer can elaborate???

The fact that most of these issues have been reported when there is rain and obviously GPS app is up or running in the background still points me to the low end processor coupled with minimal memory and the fact GPS is taking the cycles to recalculate routes after losing signal in the rain and eventually causing some kind of page fault/lockup and eventual reboot.

Kinda sounds basic doesn't it, because it really is, Toyota/Entune went cheap in there design for the core user entertainment center. Maybe fixed in the 17? or beyond...maybe an update to better manage memory and GPS performance handling? we'll see.

When mine happened it was raining. I was in Galveston at the time. I then ran down the coast to Freeport and started heading North to Austin. There were periods of rain and periods with no rain. It seemed to do it more when it was raining now that I think back to it. That is crazy.

I'm sure the dealer is going to down play the issue like they did when I asked them to check the transmission fluid at the 5k service. I'll let you know what I find out. My appointment is Saturday morning.

some of this, a little of that
the radio in my 4runner rebooted for the 1st time over the weekend, also a 2016 and it was 95 degrees and sunny, not sure I agree with this being a rain issue.

This makes a lot of sense. I actually added custom images for startup and blank screen the night before mine began rebooting. That may have been what pushed me over the edge. Just deleted personal images and will see if that changes things.

Let's compare notes mine is tomorrow, I'm also going to a dealer that was more than happy to check my ATF level the first time I took it there.

FWIW I don't have any startup screens.

Do you save GPS tracks? Just thinking that it could be an issue of the receiver running low on memory.

That I do, but still don't understand why it would only happen during the rain.

There must be some bad programming that when signal gets low it causes a page fault / kernel panic or something.

Just supposing that it could a combination of factors. Not everyone is experiencing these reboots, but I do see that they're common. I've had my truck for close to 7K miles, and I've driven through a lot of weather. I've only begun making GPS tracks in the last 2 weeks, and I uploaded screensavers for the first time Saturday night. Truck began rebooting Sunday morning.
