Is it possible to convert the rear seat on a 2009 Tacoma Access cab to the 05-08 version with the flat folddown seats? Anybody? Anybody? Beuler.... Beuler....?

If I remember right the console is all that keeps you from getting a flat section back there so you could just remove the center console and install a custom cut/fit nice piece of carpet covered plywood.

Actually I was thinking of either ordering all the parts from the 05-08 Tacoma and replacing them. Remove and replace. Would they just bolt right on?

I've asked this same question before in one thread or another. No one answers. The console in the middle is not the only hinderance. I want to do the complete switch too. You would need to order the folding: seats, storage covers, and the plastic/cloth seat back pieces. The rear bulkhead plastic piece is necessary because when the seats are folded up in order to sit, the floor brace part recesses into the bulkhead.
I know there has to be someone out there with the Toyota silverfish diagrams with part numbers. One other place to check would be local salvage yards. I haven't had the cash yet so didn't follow up on the latter. Hell I can't even get that subwoofer cover off to paint it.

    bueler...bueler...

Actually, I was going to ask how easy it was to totally remove/disconnect the subwoofer in the '09s. I use the access cab area primary for cargo I want to secure/protect from the weather, rather than people. So the subwoofer takes up what could otherwise be available space for cargo.

The other side of the coin is I don't really need a subwoofer in my truck, but all the '09s I've been looking at seem to come with the 7-speaker option. I had thought that the sub was the only thing taking up space in the '09 access cab, but I guess I'll have to have another look at the console as well.

I pulled out the center console today. Looks like I will at least need to get the longer storage locker covers off an 05-08 to cover the gap. If anyone figures out how to remove/relocate the subwoofer I'd be interested in knowing how.

The sub works well and there are a couple threads about removing the sub and headrests. The sub should come out first so as not to damage the plastic back piece in the AC. I have tried to get the cover off the sub to paint it with no luck. It is a bitch to get out.

The 05-08 backseats are much more functional for storage. Sooner or later someone will come through with the toyota silverfish pdfs and most likely pics.

I would think there are other options for subwoofers other than the rear bulkhead. I would place one under the seats or perhaps one which does not protrude so far from the bulkhead.

I did a search & all I could come up with were a couple of threads wondering if the sub could be removed, but not any where they actually did remove it. Can you point me to the ones you're talking about?

My friend has a 2005 a/c. Do you want any pictures from his truck? He is eventually going to turn it into a desert truck and rip out the rear seats to make room for a roll cage. Maybe I can get some pics for you?

Thanks. I have seen the 05-08 AC back seats as posted here and on TN. Where is your buddy located? He will be able to sell that stuff in no time to someone wanting to do the conversion. What color is his interior?

About to buy a 09 and really disappointed with Toyotas access cab seat redesign. Why would you change a design that allowed for all kinds of things like a good-sized toolbox or groceries or luggage and many other things including people with just a pull and a snap? They focused and drastically limited it to the thing it’s used for least, people! Not that people aren’t important but the old design served both purposes. Just don’t get it.
With some searching I found this post and hope someone has come up with the conversion back to 08 to correct what I see as a Toyota blunder. I am ready to buy all the parts just don’t know if the cab is ready to receive them.

    Thanks in advance…

Damn its frustrating buying this truck with such a limited design after it was designed so well.

Reviving this thread...spent the past few hours working on getting the 09 back seat area removed so I can put in one from an 06 I recently purchased. It was involved in an accident and was parted out by a member here.

There are a few holes in the carpet from the placement of all the 09 BS. Will try to post pics tomorrow when it is finished.

    None yet! It's new!
Just to add to the above about removing the sub - it sounds easy from the other thread, but I've not been able to get my cover off at all either. I've pulled so hard on it that I'm afraid it will break, but I can't get any clips free. You can't get close enough to be able to see behind it either. That sucker is on there.

I think you can go to techinfo.toyota.com, pay $15 for a 2 day access and get all the component drawings for both years to whats different and/or the same.

Of course they only accept people using Adobe Acrobat to read pdf's. If you have another reader you're SOL, and I refuse to install that bug infested POS on my machine. You're also SOL if you use a Mac, and I presume *nix as well.

I had the same problem. What I did was use a large claw hammer with a cloth around the claw and pry that bastard off. It will make a loud noise when it finally gives. Go for the side first or upper corners. Make sure you remove the small piece at the bottom first, there is a thread about the removal and painting and it describes the process.

Pic request for those who do have a 04-08 access cab. Is there a locking mechanism for when the seats are in the sitting position? Looking at the following diagrams leads me to believe there is. See items 5 and 6. What is number 4?

Also could someone take a photos of where the seats bolt into the truck in the middle just above the hump? Would be greatly appreciated. On the drivers side is there the child seat anchor plate, item 2, in your trucks?
