Wife had a flat tire in her Highlander only a couple of miles from the house. No problem, I'll throw my pancake compressor in the back of my 2016 Tacoma and use the AC current feature to run the compressor while I top off her tire so she could get home where it would be easier to change. I flip the AC switch on and with the engine idling, I plug the compressor into the AC socket in the truck bed and flip the compressor switch to "ON". Barely made it click. Turned to off and looked at the dashboard AC switch again. OFF Turned it on again and tried to turn on the compressor. Same result. A 400 watt AC outlet won't run the electric motor on a little pancake compressor? What the heck? If it can't do that, it's worthless to me.

Did I miss something in how to run this feature?

It takes quite a few amps to kick on a compressor. Was there already some air in the tank? If so that makes it even harder to turn on.

I doubt it runs a small compressor. It can only handle about 3 amps @120 volts.

400 watts equals about 5 amps for our outlet in the bed. Can't run much of anything off it.

Yes, never mind on this question. I found a thread in the 2nd generation Tacoma forum on this topic. Basically this is a worthless feature. Would run a light bulb or a little electric cordless drill battery charger but that's about it.

Forgot my old physics electricity equation - AMPS x VOLTS = WATTS.

prob not enough amps to get it going. They have special tire pressure pumps that run of 12v

That jack is not intended to be used as an electric generator with 2000 watts of power... buy yourself a 2000 watt inverter and run it straight to your battery(ies).

While I enjoy this little truck for just driving around - it continues to disappoint as a real utility vehicle. I bet if I drug a single roller skate behind this truck, my mileage would drop 5 mpg! Now I find that the AC power generator will barely light a light bulb!! LOL

The same exact setup was in my FJ, I couldn't even run a coffee pot once when my power was out at home, but I could have christmas lights going at all times while driving around in winter, so there was a slight bonus.

depends on the coffee maker, but most draw over 400 watts.

Plugs into 12v. It will take a few minutes to inflate, but works well.

I'm running a Viair 088p compressor when I need to air up after off-roading, works great. Takes under 10 minutes to air up all 4 tires from 15psi to 35 psi. $65 on Amazon

Connects to the truck battery though, which I prefer anyhow
