Ear plugs. They pack smaller and lighter. And if you don't need them you dont use them. :)

Problem #2: Can't sleep with things in my ears or over my eyes. Means I can't sleep on a plane, either. :frusty:

Just a really light sleeper, unfortunately. A big part of why I gave up on camping at campgrounds and now almost exclusively do "find someplace deserted in the middle of nowhere' camping instead.

Just a bunch of old crap
We love ours. I have to say though, my Lighter 1 Big Daddy did great on our Whitney trip. I carried it, and my wife carried a BV450. The Big Daddy was so much easier to get into with the side screws, and it held so much food. I never used the frying pan lid, but it was nice to have just in case I wanted to fry up some trout or something. I didn't carry the fry pan lid.

Whiskey for me :) Or a few beers but i prefer the whiskey so i dont have to pee in the middle of the night.

I tend to be a light sleeper the first ~hour or so and then after about 4-5am. When Im by myself i just get up at 5am and get going but when im with others its lots of sleeping for 30 minutes, turn over, 30 more minutes, repeat.

I recently picked up some new Thermarest mattresses. Now I can pack 4 in the same space as one of my old ones. It has made a huge difference in space and weight. Especially while I'm still putting 4 of us in one canoe.

Of course the old mattresses rolled up and sat on top of packs and now they pack inside, so I kinda went backwards there. Better protection from rain though.

I have two of these. I've had them for about 3 years now and love it. I have a Medium and a Small and want and XL to put my packraft and paddles in. The medium one has over 150,000 miles and 8 counties of travel on it. Its my go to bag. They kick ass on storage and the backpack straps are pretty nice. I've left it out in the snow before and everything was still dry. I wouldn't leave it in a down pour but it will keep your stuff dry 90% of the time. The medium fits into ALL overhead bins both domestic and international. You'll pass the weight limit for some airlines before they tell you its too big. I usually check it on my way back from somewhere. I just got back from 2 weeks in Iceland and I had my camping gear and 7 days of clothes in it no problem. I usually can have 10 days of clothes and my tripod in there with plenty of room left for things I buy while abroad. The small is great for short weekend trips. We took it to the Caribbean for a weekend last year and it held both my Ex gfs stuff and mine no problem. Only thing I will say to keep in there are a few sizes of ziplocks. Its nice to have them if you have super dirty clothes or gear and what to keep them from getting mixed in with other stuff.

I have a cheap Cabela's duffel but I'd really like one of those nice, more waterproof ones.
