Actually they are bringing the hatch back in 2018 with a redesigned motor that will yield more HP. Subaru is aware of what Ford has done. And obviously if Ken Block left Subaru for Ford that says a lot right there.

Good stuff, when companies compete the owners win. I'm hoping that Ford's release of a new Ranger will encourage Toyota to step up their game in the future.

I have to be honest, if I were looking for a truck right now I'd steer clear of the 2016 Tacoma...and the 2017 too for that matter. Your dime though and I hope you have good luck.

Why would you steer clear ??

As a 2016 TRD OR truck owner, I agree with this post. I'm having brake vibration, pulsating, buzzing issues almost Everytime I hit my brakes at low speeds. It's gotten worse as time goes on.

Toyota should fix ths shit but they are all "characteristics of the vehicle".

The thing that throws a flag for me is the issues with the AC60F transmission. It sounds like Toyota has some fairly significant software and/or mechanical issues to address, in addition to the transmissions arriving in many customers' hands low on fluid. Tough to say what the long-term outcome will be with this stuff...

I have been reading about that on the 3rd gen forums. From what I understand is when you get the truck, check all the fluid levels. It seems its hit or miss whether the fluid levels are right. After that you should be golden. Im sure Smitty will come and elaborate at some point. I would still get it, but Im a taco lover so maybe im biased...

It sounds like some owners have problems, some don't have problems, and others are willing to live with (or even defend) the problems. I just want to be sure potential buyers are aware of the situation before they sign the dotted line. Personally, I'd be PISSED if I bought a new truck that had some of the issues discussed to date. I'm hanging onto my 2014 until Ford releases their Ranger (no way I'm buying first model year) and Toyota has an opportunity to get their Tacoma issues worked out.

If the OP decides to run with the deal her mention, maybe he can point out some of the recent issues and use that to score an extended warranty as part of the deal.

I've had almost every major issue discuss in this forum for the 2016.

In terms of the transmission, I think they've made great strides with this latest TSB. I think some others are having some minor issues still, but it is light years ahead of the shit programming it rolled out of the factory with.

My biggest pain points now are the rear end howl, the rumble strip braking vibes, and this brake pedal buzzing bullshit that seems to have gotten worse over the last few days.

A question I got is why are so many itching to swap out their 2012-15 tacos for new ones? I love my 2012 and I hopefully don't plan to swap it out for a good amount of years, but I guess that's just me?

Now for something completely different....from another perspective.

I have had ZERO and I mean ZERO issues with my 2016 TRD 4x4 DC.
No transmission issues, no weird howling, no vibrations of any kind (except the rumble strip feeling when slowing down) and ZERO
issues with entune. I just passed 2000 miles on it so I am wondering if/when I will begin to experience the crap many others face?

I didnt even bother with the Trans TSB. She shifts perfectly and has never hunted for any gears nor slipped nor gone into a false neutral on me. My MPG is 22-27.7 consistently.

So not all of us HAVE problems...the Taco is a decent truck and looks great. But something is inconsistent here as so many people report problems yet not all of us have them. I knew about all of this crap before I bought the Taco but rolled the dice anyway.
I am very happy with my purchase and dont regret it at all. At this point I'm not even going to consider an extended warranty.
    ZERO trips to the dealer

Oddly I traded in a piece of shit 2016 Honda Touring Civic with a CVT. Never Honda again. EVER.

So as long as you know the 'potential' issues you 'could' face with this truck and the fact that Toyota doesnt appear to give a crap, then you are an informed buyer!

    :fingerscrossed:

I've got 8k miles on my OR Tacoma in 6 months of ownership, had the TSBs done to plug the whistling control arms and correct the R-D delay. Other than those two items the truck has been running just fine, no additional issues.

So by "0 problems" you mean "I have the rumble strip while stopping problem"?

One of the craziest things I've noticed about this great community of owners is how much shit you are all willing to accept, brush off, deal with on your new $35-40k vehicle. "It's a truck!"

He probably has a 4 cylinder. No one with a v6 is getting those numbers unless they are showing trip summary pics of the time they coasted down a mountain.

Its a year old model at this point.... gotta move'em off the lots for 2017s that Toyota is pumping out nonstop.

You got a good deal OP, saved thousands in exchange for not having a rear sliding mini window.

^^^ That... same for me at 11K miles. Only issue was dry u-joints, TCO'd myself. It's a fun truck to drive - I just drove 550 miles straight to our vacation cottage in Canada - first time in 40+ years I drove the whole way. I was hauling 2 touring Kayaks and going 85mph and got 18mph average. Thats not too shabby.
