Alright, We're looking to try and go camping over Labor day weekend somewhere in the upstate. I'm expecting lots of people which im not really a fan of lol. we'll most likely be car camping because we will be bringing people who probably shouldn't or couldn't hike in to a site like we normally do. anybody know of a decent preferably lesser known campground in the upstate that we can head to? im assuming we'll need running water and facilities for our company. We've already done Gorges State Park a few times so we're avoiding that one. Also fishing streams are a huge plus! @holyfield19 @Daria @ChamYota @TownvilleTim @Shibbyjeep @JimboAnz

What's everyone's opinion on having a fold down table, and Jerry can holders or would rotopax on the swing out. @SCSPerformance has a wheel like I need for $145 plus shipping right now

Hickory Knob State Resort Park. It's not really the Upstate, but Hickory Knob is well appointed for "civilized" camping, plus there is plenty of fishing to be done. If you want less civilized camping, go past the Upstate and just past Brevard into Pisgah. Around Horse Cove and Slick Rock are some primitive campsites on the rivers with great swimming, and there is fishing to be done there, too. Civilization also isn't too far away in Brevard.

I know of just a few places that would fit most of your criteria. Unfortunately, the running water and facilities need cancels out a lot of places.

Look into a place called chattooga sounds campground:
    http://www.chattoogasounds.com
I have stayed here before with my sons Cub Scout group.

Chun ram park has camp sites and facilities, but I avoid that place like the plauge.

Oconee state park: probably booked up

If I think of anymore I'll get back to you

We had been there a few times in the past, but the last time we went was the first we have had any issues. I doubt we will be going back soon. N GA seems like it will be a good area to start exploring for trails and campsites.

@jpneely if you are looking for camping with facilities check out link above. There may be random other county/local/private camping- that are not state parks.

yea we use that a lot too. it seems the private ones are a little less crowded. If it wasn't for needing running water, I was just going to post up on a forest service road up in Mills River or something like that.

The park ranger there and myself don't see eye to eye. We have had words before. I used to go there almost weekly to walk my dog since it is 5 minutes down the road. She got off one day (I was the only one person in the park, it was November, and slightly raining) and as I was calling her back, the ranger got between me and her where the footbridge is. He started to give me some big lecture and I blew him off. He came back with some BS power trip thing. The park is small and not really worth going to, especially since they charge for entrance. About 4-5 years ago it was a free park. Totally not worth it IMO.
