Pretty sure there is a hide a key in it (may be wrong). You just have to get it cut.

And yes a scanner could pick up my garage code.....or anyone that uses a garage door, whats your point? Someone could use a pointy rock to break your window.
Most theft is petty and looks for easy entry, IE: unlocked doors. Not oceans 11 style for suburban goods. Also I have homeowners insurance that would cover me. Don't live your life in fear.

I do have the emergency key in order, it fits into the card key, just like the emergency key in the current fob, so I will be able to get into the truck. I think this card is actually less susceptible to damage than our fobs because it will always be protected in our wallet, and not thrown around or dropped or otherwise moved and carried the way keys are, and it is made of metal and feels sturdier and harder to damage than my original fob.
As far as my garage door, I have a new opener with the highest level of security, I also have a keypad entry for my house, (going totally keyless if possible) but it rarely gets used, and if someone wanted into my house I am sure they would have easier ways to get in, but they would have to deal with the Doberman inside.

The Lexus emergency key slides into/ out of the inside of the Wallet Card Key through the bottom edge:image.jpg

@Victory the Toyota nation link shows a member with a Toyota version of the wallet card key. Any idea what current Toyota model uses this tech?

No Toyotas officially do, that member peeled the Toyota logo off his factory fob and stuck it on his Lexus card.

Very cool thank you. This mod would work even better if more than one door handle had a touch sensor like most Toyota cars do.

Was thinking one day of getting a drivers side door handle off eBay taking it apart and putting the guts into the passenger side.

So that is something I forgot to mention earlier. I am pretty sure it is possible to get the passenger door handle working with the smart key. The control module is the same as the modules used in the Lexus IS250 which uses a passenger handle and trunk handle sensor. The thing is we would need the door handle, the receiver which mounts inside the door and attaches to the handle, and the wiring harness or wiring to the door. This would all be pretty expensive to buy new, it is something I'd love to have, but probably not for the money it would take to make it happen.

Ok, so I just ordered a techstream v.10 from the 'bay...also ordering the Fob. It'd be pretty cool if this all works out...I'll keep you guys posted. I talked to a couple of different local locksmiths...most of them claim "It's not possible"...well, we shall see ;)

I'm pretty sure as this generation ages they will include as standard issue. I remember when smart key was introduced in the 04 Prius it only had a single door sensor.

Yeah the first guy I went to wouldn't even try even though he had a sign saying he programmed vehicle smart keys, I think it is that he couldn't get past the Lexus logo on the key. The second guy couldn't do smart keys but knew who to send me to, that third guy got it done, though he was skeptical he at least tried for me, I think he was a little surprised when it worked. Even with going to 3 guys I was done in under an hour, I am sure I would have still been sitting at the dealership waiting had I gone there.
Good luck with the techstream though, I would have tried that had I had a Windows PC.

if your using techstream and have the current version it will list the 2016 Tacoma on it. I tried programming my 2014 4runner fob to the 2016 and that was a no go. there is 2 methods to program a new key to the 2016. new method and old method. I tried both and it never worked since the fobs are completely different.

the new method is a lot easier and probably only applies to new models and the old method (which is a pita) is for older models I am guessing.

@Victory - Could you give me the name or number of your locksmith? I'm trying to figure out which model of programmer he used...

The techstream won't be here for a couple of weeks - still good to have, but I want to program sooner :)

Many thanks to the OP for getting this done.

I am also interested in the mod, but have just a few questions.

    - How does the key look/feel when put in your wallet? I know you mentioned it's the width of 3 credit cards (is it really that thin?)
    - Does the truck allow programming of a 3rd key? Some cars only allow 2 smart keys programmed. Do all your previous 2 smart keys still work?

Thanks again! I guess I really need to find if I could find someone to program this as well.

Btw, most garage door openers over the last 10 years have rolling codes and pick from a little shy of 100 different codes. Somebody is more likely to break a window out then screw with a scanner.

I used LockMan Locksmith in Pinellas Park FL 727-544-1824. I have no other experience with them and this certainly isn't an endorsement, but they did get it programmed.

It really is that small, I can't tell it is in my wallet.
It looks like you can program up to 3 extra keys, (5 keys total) after that they need to wipe all keys in order to add any and then add back what you want, if you buy a used key this would also be the procedure. I have 3 working keys now, my two fobs that came with the truck and the credit card key.
