Probably because the 2nd gens have aged quite a bit.

Remember, the 2nd gen came out in 2004, and remain relatively unchanged til 2015. That's a long time.

You sit in a new one (3rd) gen, and go back to a 2nd gen and it feels like you've stepped back in time.

I'm one of the few that came from a 2nd gen and changed to a 3rd. The new truck is a lot better (more refined) IMO. I also love all the new tech stuff.

Insane how many mix responses I see on this thread. What has Toyota done ! Now I am thinking of pulling out of the deal and just getting a 4runner. 11 year old technology drivetrain wise that has proven to be strong and reliable

IMO, don't go by internet responses. Go drive the truck, and look it over carefully and make up your mind then.

I'm dropping the Tacoma deal for a 4Runner that is still being made in Japan . I trust Toyota 4.0 set up . Not risking it when it comes to that expense . Can't wait for the 4Runner !!!! Sr5 premium in white with black carbon interior .

This helped a lot in making my decision . Thank you all and I feel bad for those who are having issues on Tacomas . It's sad , and deceiving

I almost went the 4runner route myself. Just couldn't get past the look of the front end. 4runner or tacoma I don't think you can go wrong. I picked up my new trd OR DC in quicksand yesterday so looks like I'm in it for the long haul.

    Good luck

Nope considering the STI he's trading in is a 16 also.

Well this thread is less than 24 hours old, so I'm hoping it will be a land cruiser by tonight.

My brother bought a new one. The suspension was noisy and bad handling. Toyota never could figure it out, traded it in on a camry after 6 months.

Quite ironic that one of the best deals on a new Tacoma (albeit with a trade, which muddies the waters) on here ends up not being bought. Ha!

Yup, about a dozen LOUD voices or so for what may only be a few hundred people having issues, out of ~110,000 trucks. Too bad. 4Runner's are nice though, so six-of-one, half-dozen of another...

Lol oh how I miss you TW members.

I can't afford the STI. I am now in graduate school and don't need a fancy sports car. I need a Toyota truck that can bare the brutal winter months driving up North to school.

I still haven't pulled the trigger on the 4runner. I am meeting with the salesman tomorrow. I'm very torn between which truck will serve me right. I still have a deposit on the Tacoma, so in all reality the deal can still go through. It all depends on the numbers I am provided with tomorrow regarding the 4runner.
