problems with breaks when sliding

If my truck is sliding on ice and I push the break I get a horrible grinding sound. I can also feel it from the pedal on my foot. It is similar to the grinding sound you can get from a manual transmission (which mine is) when you mess up and grind the gears.

Usually when this happens I am in neutral because I am going very slow trying to stop at a stop sign or light. I can only pump my breaks very lightly to avoid this.

08 2x4 access cab 4 banger is my truck.

 

It's just the ABS. The all do this. You are not supposed to pump the brakes it does it for you.

 

An anti-lock braking system, or ABS is a safety system which prevents the wheels on a motor vehicle from locking up (or ceasing to rotate) while braking. That would be what you feel.

Dont push on the pedal so hard,or get your brakes checked.If your pushing hard enough at a slow speed to engauge the ABS your nailen that shit.

 

All ABS systems are similar but respond/react differently.....The first time mine activated in my Tacoma on ice the noise startled the hell out of me. It's normal,no worries.

 

Your brakes are working properly so that you don't break anything.

You shouldn't be in neutral either. You want to use the engine to help you break as well.

 

It's definitely not the abs just grunting and working properly. I'm not pushing the pedal to hard; I can actually barely push it at all once this happens. I know what abs should sound like, but this sounds like the truck is half in gear and crying in pain.

I showed this to my friend who I bought the truck from and he said he had never had this sound before, and his 09 4 banger taco doesn't make this sound.

I guess I'll take her to the stealership if no one here has had a similiar issue + solution. Should be warrantied anyways.

edit - oh yea, when it starts making this sound it begins to slide even worse, as if the breaks are not on, which is why I have been having to pump them otherwise I just keep sliding and grinding.
