Your site looks pretty open for a crane truck but whatever , stick framing a roof is more fun anyway , probably my favourite part of framing

Not really. Lots of big white oaks surround the house. The sun really only hits the house for about 4 hours in the middle of the day. There are a lot of trees here I want to keep.

This is how I left it yesterday afternoon:
    image.jpg image.jpg

All the plywood should be done as of now, and The garage should be framed today. I have to wait until later on today to go see. I had to come into work today :(

I would much rather be over there working.

    The garage is stood up.

Looks like a compound now. Tomorrow they start the ceiling joists and button up some loose ends. Roof starts Thursday.

I love the way it looks from the back.

Is the vertical wall sheeting orientation standard in your area ?

Lots of guys do it that way around here. There are less seams between the panels, and on something this wall size, will allow the panels to cross/lap the rim joist on the back side. If you look there will be one open seam around the top (where the rip is) of the house as opposed to 4 or 5 if it had been run horizontal. The seams will be on the studs for the most part.

Yeah , it seems to be a regional thing . Here the long axis is usually laid perpendicular to the studs .

Getting there. All the ceiling joists are in, and started on the rafters. Maybe finish with them tomorrow.
    image.jpg

Maybe, there is the main roof, garage, space between the garage, and two porches to do. I know at least the main house will be done. The framer has another house to do in a couple weeks so he is working real hard to get this one done. It's good that I can help on evenings and 3 day weekends. I really miss this kind of work, makes me feel alive!

I took that picture when I got there this evening. We have another section stood and ready to go for the morning.

24'x24' garage (no posts) into a ~10'x~13' "mud room" type area.image.jpg

Headers for the screened in porch off the kitchen.
    image.jpg

I went with an 8/12 pitch on the roof. Made the right choice. 6/12 would have been too short to compliment the walls. Holy cow is there going to be a lot of space up there. Maybe one day I will find a good way to utilize it. I see a dope ass set of spiral stairs in my distant future (just have to find a place to stick em).
    image.jpg

*that is a 5' wide x 6'6" tall scaffold buck in the last picture, give you an idea on the roof height.

The roof for the main house is just about finished. Yesterday and today killed it. It would rain (pouring rain) on and off throughout the day. Yesterday we were rained out three times and today twice. I can't wait to get this thing in the dry. I know it will put the brakes on everything (that's when you the real fun starts, plumbing/elec.), but then I can work without being interrupted by the weather.

If you don't work in the rain here you don't work for about 8 months of the year haha

That's what I was thinking about. How the heck do they build houses in Seattle, and there abouts.

I don't mind the rain, but roofing is different. And when the rain comes here, it pours.
