I too was/am a CPS victim. No symptoms before. Not in hot weather. Drove two miles, parked, ate breakfast and when I pulled out in heavy (but slow) traffic it died showing trans hot, etc. I was only going 15 mph but uphill as so could not coast off the road.

Toyota may not do a recall in 6 months, but this IS going to get someone killed. Somebody mentioned DFW, but could be in CHI, I5 in Cali, I95 in FL, any of the high speed 'mixmaster' interchanges around the country, or a multitude of other dangerous situations.

Maybe they'll consider doing a recall then. I LOVE the truck, but as yet I'm not convinced they've solved the problem with a replacement as I was an early victim. Taking Toyota at their word, they know which trucks had a 'bad batch'. Recall them now. I implemented fleet data system for the largest fleets in the US for a couple of decades. I assure you if these vehicles were theirs they would be running their own recall campaign (at Toyota's expense).

If I'm miles off road, towing, or in one of the situations noted above and it fails again they'll be buying the truck - one way or the other.

I hope they didn't try to fit that oil filter onto your 3.5L

I started this just to let my fellow Tacoma friends know there is an issue. The dealership had no clue what the problem was and contacted Toyota in Cali, he stated that they know there is an issue and have sense came out with a replacement part, also know this, as of last week the replacement part still has the same part number as the original and they are working on correcting it. I'm told that I have the new one and not the bad one (sure hope so). I live in the Dallas area so yes it's hot here and I know this is a new model but my 07 never had an issue, the only thing other than normal maintenance was I replaced the u-joints at 100k, I traded it in at just over 200k.

That's not the correct part number for this engine. Should be 04152-YZZA1. The one listed looks to be a canister filter and not a cartridge

OP, this is very helpful info. Anything you can to do confirm that there has been changes to the original part and the replacement is a revision would be appreciated.

Cartridge filter? Really? I've only had a cartridge filter on a BMW, and an older one at that, I had a 735 BMW with that or am I thinking an canister filter?

Looks like it crosses to the 4.0L engine - probably just a habit for the techs to use that P/N on their documentation

I bought a first year 12' wrangler and the common problem was a misfire on the left head. Fix was to change the head. I can live with a sensor change. Cylinder head, not so much.

I'm the one who packs a spare CPS with me. Vibrating hoods, vibrations in the steering wheel, rumble while slowing down, etc, won't leave me walking 30 plus miles to cell service in the middle of nowhere nevada. A failed CPS will. Here is what the part looks like. It lives in the glovebox.

    Rant over.

Oddly enough the CPS box is marked made in Japan....so much for the Japanese parts being higher quality argument...

Hopefully someone with post some pics of where it is on the engine or a video. I might be inclined to pick one up as well for the glovebox just in case.

One of the other CPS sensor threads has a repair diagram. On the V6 it appears that you would just remove that rubber flap in the passenger wheel well, locate the wiring, unplug the CPS, unbolt it, and reinstall.

It's about a 100 dollar part. I call it cheap insurance.

post up a picture of it looking at the wire connector. with the bolt hole facing up, you better see a small "grid" marking outside of the connector. if it doesn't have this marking, it is just as likely to fail as any one produced before April(without the marking)
i've heard of a few getting replaced with old stock, and having the same issue after replacement.
