Well, yesterday the ol' 4Runner beat my ass. Called it a day pretty early, and went back at it fresh this afternoon.

And, I made it my bitch.

And, here's what's causing all of my issues.

New heads get here tomorrow, and my buddy will be coming over Saturday to throw them on.

Were you able to take them off together or did you have to disassemble everything?

Both, kinda. After 4 of the 6 studs on the passenger side exhaust manifold came off with the nuts, I decided to remove the last two as well. The driver's side had MUCH less room to work, so I left that manifold attached and removed both manifolds, crossover pipe, and down pipe with the driver's side head. Worked out pretty slick. Since I had removed the radiator I just climbed into the engine bay, stood on the front cross member, lifted the heads up, turned 90 degrees, and handed them to my wife to set down. Piece of cake.

After so many years without a car payment, and nearly 100,000 miles of enjoyment, I am not too upset. Honestly, I am just glad to FINALLY know what the hell was causing all of my issues this past year or so.

Other than being very time consuming, the task has been relatively easy so far. The only "special" tool I have used outside of my Husky tool kit is my 1/2" drive breaker bar, and angled needle nose pliers. I was worried I'd have to buy a bunch of tools, but such has not been the case. I ordered some high end plastic gasket scrapers for like $10, and that's it.

There will be some special tools needed for reassembly, but my buddy will bringing his from work. GOOD (calibrated) torque wrenches, torque angle meter, and the SST to check the valve lash on the new heads.

Apparently the head bolts you're supposed to torque them all (in a certain cross pattern) to something like 26lb/ft, then turn them all 90 degrees (in a certain cross pattern) and then turn them all ANOTHER 90 degrees (again, in a certain cross pattern).

Looking forward to driving it again. Also ordered some new (OEM) lower control arms... After replacing my bushings with Whiteline in February, they're already squeaking like mad.

So...I'm buying a new Mini Cooper S (Keeping the Truck). So I thought I would check out some Mini Cooper Forums and learn more about it and to check out the events, tuning, meets and mods pages. THEY ALL SUCK HUGE BIG FAT HAIRY BALLS!!!
The layout of the forums suck! Hardly anyone posts pics of what they are talking about. The participation of the members suck! Most of the forums require $25.00 a year membership to have full access to create new threads. They have an events calendar for the previous years, but nothing for the current year. They apparently hold rally's but you won't believe the requirements if I was going to put one on or host one. It's not like this place when I want to go wheeling. All I need to do is say HEY! i'm going here and here, who wants to meet up and hit the trail!

Tacoma owners and this forum kicks ass! You guys ROCK!!!

He needs those spinning blender things that pop out of the center of his wheels like in the spy movies

I really doubt it. The guy was driving an Exploder. There's in no damage to the rocker panels, all the damage is to the doors and fenders.

Then you would have needed a radar-operated automated point defense system.

That's a common method used in some large ship engines for tightening the head. It's usually only one wrench flat or so at a time using a jackhammer sized impact gun (we'd use the crane to move it from nut to nut). One some engines the nuts are only hand tight. There's a special hydraulic jack that is used to stretch the stud, then you spin the nut til it bottoms out, then release the hydraulic pressure (1400 bar if I remember right).

I was drunk in a bar one time explaining this system to a really hot 25 year old girl who did not give a fuck at all.

Depends on how far he welded them. He still would need new doors. That's Def not a bondo job :(
