Here is the original thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/few-things-i-noticed-while-i-was-under-my-truck.432460/

    Hi all,
I wanted to give an update on my truck, and thank everybody here who's been very helpful to me along the way so far. 4 weeks surely felt like a really long wait to me. I was worried how I was ever going to get my truck or $ back (Many ppl suggested to seek legal counsel like @perfectsoldier23 ).

Yesterday while at work, I got a call from the service writer at the dealer that the work on my truck is complete and that I could come and pick it up. It was 3 days before it's going to be 30days. The service station closes by 6, and I wasn't going to be able to pick my truck up. I also didn't feel very good about taking my truck which had been driving with no oil all along for 2 weeks, among the other issues I've mentioned before. I was thinking of to getting my truck this morning and I got a call from Toyota Corporate, and I was a bit nervous at what they' were going to say now that the truck is ready.

The agent from Corporate told me that he actually has some good news for me, that they've extended my trucks warranty to 8years/100K miles (I had told them earlier that I have little confidence in taking back my new truck which takes them 3 weeks to fix, I still do). I did think of asking for a new vehicle, after-all I had less than 750 miles on mine. They asked if I wanted to accept that offer. I had not seen my vehicle at this point. I said yes. But after inspecting the work, it looks like a brand new differential. I think overall it came out great. The value of the truck is now improved and I have a whole new differential. He said, they have confidence in my truck and the work done and wanted me to be happy . I am happy and feel encouraged. I do have dismay of our trucks being so sluggish when you step on it, as it isn't as peppy and powerful like my old car, but I am told that's how this engine is like, made for fuel efficiency. But its ok.

I got everything documented from the service writer. They also said they filled up my AT fluid, got it documented 1QT low, and torched my loose u-bolts (which I was able to unscrew w/ my hands, OMG ), and fixed up the truck like new with differential. I drove my truck straight to the Opti-coat body shop and gave it to them :).

I will admit that is great customer service. If they combined this with acknowledging and researching reported issues that don't have an obvious solution, it would be FANTASTIC.

Glad it worked out for you!

    Great to hear.

Hopefully the serious issues you and @perfectsoldier23 are having, are not only for female owned trucks!

They were indeed super nice to extend that. I tried hard to keep my giggles and excitement to myself. I am happy that I got my truck back after an month, but I only had it with me for a few hours before I dropped it off at the shop that does the opti-coat(ing) so that takes another 3 days of waiting before I could get it for myself ;)

    Hi everybody,

I need all your advice. Today when I looked under my truck I see that the diff was badly leaking, and the spare tire has oil all over it splashed from the diff. I was trying to find where this noise I'm hearing was coming from.
And there is oil pools also where I left my truck at my work.
Last time when I gave them my truck, they kept it for 28 days for this same exact problem.
The excuse I was given was that the part needed was on order (when I suggested to take the part from a new truck in the lot and replace it with mine, they didn't do it).
Also while driving I hear a howling noise too. I thought they fixed the howling noise when they put the parts for T-SB-0053-16, but this howling noise sounds different and is coming from the back, and gets louder when I go faster. The best I could describe the noise is the sound if your mudflap got bend and the tire is rubbing against it the sound it would make. It could also be that all the oil is now gone and maybe I'm driving with no oil in the diff, who knows. its not like I can check.
This is very upsetting. After I spend all that money and all that wait, all I ever wanted was to enjoy my truck...
I plan to email the service writer who assisted me last time and ask for an appointment to bring it in. What should I tell them?

Yikes! So it's doing the same thing as the first time, I would bring it back in and you'll have to figure out what you want to do now. A new truck plus they compensate you for whatever you just had done, plus a bit more for your headaches.

    You're more patient than me...

I could put pictures tomorrow, I didn't take any tonight because it was dark when I left work and came home, and images won't be of good quality.

Again E! Makes one think there is something else going on in there causing your diff seal to leak, seems highly unlikely both seals would leak, but not out of the question. Honestly at this point I would consider a buy back/pursuing lemon law. I personally would not want the truck long term.

Kind of seems odd though with a new differential. I'd just have them replace the truck. On a positive note the op could get a 2017

Two differentials in a row blow a pinion seal? They need to verify the driveline angles and that one of the u joints isnt bound up. Are you getting any vibration when driving?

Something is tearing up that seal and/or pinion bearing. Either that or they have a serious manufacturing issue with these differentials (bearing pre load way off?). Mine is howling now too by the way, but not leaking. It is very possible that yours leaked, drained the oil and the sound you are hearing is the gears/bearings just eating themselves. If there is a chance you have no fluid in there, I recommend not driving it, you need to have the dealer tow it to them for you, tell them you are concerned for your safety. Tell them you have seen the oil all over the place and on the floor and that it howls loudly when you drive it. They should have no problem charging toyota for the tow.

@Eden4x2 What factory was your Tacoma produced in? I apologize if you already posted it and I missed it.
    I'm just curious.
