2016 Tacoma crankshaft sensor issue

You forgot the plastic plugs up front to prevent howling you always bitch about.

 

Yeah that's what I figured but you never know with these things it seems. Be good to have just in case it does decide to take a dump one day.

 

There are far more sensitive electronics under that dash subject to heat than a CSP stored in the glove box such as the ecm, trip computer, entune, auto a/c computer, and a host of other stuff, it'll be air condition space compared to the engine bay, don't sweat it.

I know I should've stayed off the forums when I bought my taco 2 days ago. Ugh. Now it seems like I bought a lemon of a truck. I go on a 1,000 mile round trip fishing trip every spring where we end up a 3 hour drive from the closest town in northern maine and now this is all I will be thinking of.

 

Don't sweat it, mine has a build date of Jan/16 and I'm not loosing any sleep over it as the odds of that happening to any given Taco are slim to non. I have a better chance of running out of gas lmaoo!
But you have a newer build so you should have no issues

I figure I have a bad sensor too but it probably won't fail until I'm 50 miles back on unmaintained forest roads, at 3am, on my way to set up roosting a turkey.... gotta love it.

Hopefully it becomes a TSB with affected VINs and I can talk my dealer into addressing it. This could actually be a safety issue if these were to fail on a major interstate, say towing up a steep grade, in heavy traffic. It's never safe to be stranded on the side of the highway. Law enforcement and motorists are killed parked off the side of the freeway all the time. If this is a known issue, Toyota is being reckless about not addressing it but I am not surprised one bit.

The cycle of some of these 3rd-gen threads.

Someone posts a problem with their truck, then a group of members gets mad and accuses them of trolling. After the claim is legit, they go on to argue it is only xx amount of cases reported on here out of the xxxxxxxxx trucks on the road. Well ya, besides the fact that the forum makes up a very small percentage of the total owners, why would some people go through the hassle of even posting on here when they just get jumped on for doing so? It makes no sense.

I'm not hating or anything, but just an observation that every thread is the same cycle. I understand that a lot of people complain about silly things with the 3rd Gen that it probably doesn't deserve. But I think some of the 3rd gen problems are legit and need talked about. I don't understand when someone posts that their new 16 is broke and they get met with the response of 'I have 15k on my 16 and it works flawlessly'...Well, good for you, what is your point? It doesn't change that others are having problems. Sorry, rant over.

How many Taco owners does it take to change a CPS sensor???

Answer: 1 and 100 forum members to take a dump on the person that changed it....just sayin

 

I've done it before on jeeps, it's not difficult at all, except you have to either have tiny hands or be a contortionist to do it on a jeep. Sounds like Toyota at least made it easy to access.

 

Easy to change, Like they new it was going to be a problem.

 

any thing can break at any time, don't worry yourself over things you can't control. I've gone hundreds of miles from home out on the trails, if it breaks, it breaks. Toyota can have fun paying an offroad recovery tow bill.

 

Funny you say don't worry over things you can't control. According to my wife that's what I do best. Constantly saying that to me whenever anything bothers me haha. I only put on about 6,500 miles a year so hopefully any issues get taken care of by toyota before I have an issue.

 

At least it's an easy fix. Easier than topping off the Transmission fluid. We'll see where this one goes. To the original poster and those who actually helped with information Thank You. I feel I am in a better position to deal with this issue if I have to. It isn't the first spare part I have ever carried and probably won't be the last. I am more worried about it dying on the freeway rather than out on some trail someplace. It's a half hour fix. Best wishes to all who have to deal with these trials and tribulations. If it wasn't for Tacoma World where would we be.

 

A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.

 

Anything can fail at any time, if you use your imagination everything can be a safety/death issue.

There should be a recall because your gas cap might come loose and fuel slosh out and get under the car, hit the exhaust, and burn it down
