It's the smoothest manual I've driven. Very little effort and smooth, positive engagements.

On a side note, mine is one that was getting stuck in gear after everything warmed up on the highway. It's at the dealership right now getting the new TSB for that problem done. Apparently the problem was a poorly designed $10 detent pin.

Assuming that if no longer sticks in gear, I won't have anything negative to say about the transmission at all. That was my only gripe.

Do you happen to have a link to that TSB? Really hoping this new 6MT will turn out to be more reliable than the 2nd gen 6MT.

I don't have a link for it, no. In fact I had a hard time verifying that it even existed since it didn't pull up under my VIN at the dealership and nobody online could post the official pdf version of it. I had them print it out at the dealership and I posted photos of the printout in another thread on this forum.

Awesome thanks, at least this way we can at least argue with the service writer that it exists...:argue:

They're doing mine right now and didn't give me any flack about doing it even though they couldn't replicate the problem. Some of the people with the problem have it happen any time they drive more than half an hour which would be easy to replicate. Mine only happens after 4 or 5 hours on the highway and they aren't going to pay a tech an hourly rate to drive my truck to St. Louis and back.

So far, I think I've only heard of one person getting the TSB done and he says that it completely solved his problem. Admittedly, I take so few road trips and mine happens after such a long time on the road that it will take me a very long time to know whether it solved my problem or not.

I've had no issues with my 2nd gen MT. When my TOB goes I'll replace it with the URD jobbie and forget about it.

But maybe I'm just used to the aftermarket stepping in to fix design flaws which happens a lot with the dirt and adventure motorcycles I've owned.

Getting my URD Stage 2 Performance clutch kit in the mail tomorrow, installed this Friday :bananadance:

The added torque from the supercharger was too much for my poor, stock TOB to handle and it's been chirping like a mofo for the last couple of months.

Question: URD says they recommend a 500 mile "break in period" on the stage 2 clutch, 300 miles is mandatory. What exactly is a break in period for a clutch? Just no hard shifting or redlining?

That sounds like an excellent question for URD. :spy::anonymous:

When I was researching getting one in January I recall the MT being revised but essentially a carry over. I never got the specs on what changed but pretty sure it's "updated" for 16's.

There's Automatic Transmissions - then there's Toyota automatic tranmissions... programmed by 75 year old engineers... miles away from their motor and chassis colleagues. ... serously no collaboration amongst the teams IMO . lol

I see, was hoping for a new design. Quite frankly I'm fed up with my 2nd gen recurring TOB issues without a real lasting fix, at least none I found so far. Actually thinking of trading it in for an auto 2nd gen, but I'm afraid I would regret that decision. 3rd gen 6MT is out of my price range for a few years unfortunately plus truck is paid off and I was not planning to have vehicle payments for next 5 - 10 years...

Would be very interested to know what actual changes were made to it if anyone has any info. Alternatively, if anyone found a real fix for the 2nd gen. Also curious if anyone installed URD's new hydro TOB fix?

ugh, that involves talking to an actual person
Have you upgraded to a stronger than OEM clutch assembly? Curious because my TOB is bad too and I'm getting a URD clutch kit installed hopefully to last this time

15k miles ago (2 summers ago) I got Exedy clutch (probably OEM equivalent replacement) and URD TOB sleeve kit installed as it was chirping for a while. Symptoms were gone until this summer, now it is squealing constantly. Truck is an 07 with 115k miles.

ugh, that's lame. Hoping mine doesn't come back at least for another 100k miles or so, a clutch assembly (bearings included) should last at least that long. Especially URD parts.

Are you supercharged? Off-road a lot? Trying to think of why it would keep going out like that. I'm supercharged and I wheel almost every weekend so I'm not surprised my OEM TOB got toasted. If the same thing happens to this super expensive URD kit, I won't be happy...

My understanding is the 2016 is a completely new MT transmission, with updates portions of the clutch including the problem 2nd gen TOB.

Not supercharged, no offroading, truck had a fairly easy life really, started towing utility trailer this summer about once a week, 2500lbs on average.

I disliked my brand new 12' auto DBL cab LB so much after 4 years I bought the 6 MT on the 3rd site on scene. I wasn't going to spend 40 000 again on a rig that left something to be desired almost from day 1. I've never looked back . Especially after reading some initial posts on her I knew Toyota had flunked again on the New Auto. Even though I really wanted the Off Road I wanted good drive ability and 4 doors more...

It's a 2nd gen MT or bust for me. URD says the TOB upgrade can start squealing when the clutch wears more so I figure I'll do the TOB and URD Clutch kit at the same time. I really like the MT in the truck for the mountains and if I get another it won't be a 3rd gen (they went too conservative on the upgrades) and that means I'm likely getting an auto trans in some other truck which I really don't want to do so I'm going to try and get the TOB fix resolved before switching.

60k miles on mine so far and no TOB issues yet...
